AMERICAN ACU COMBAT TROUSERS 🇺🇸

The ACU, or Army Combat Uniform, was introduced by the US Army in the mid 2000s, replacing the older BDU and Desert Camouflage Uniform. These trousers feature the instantly recognisable digital Universal Camouflage Pattern, or UCP, which was originally designed as one camouflage system intended to work across urban, desert and woodland environments. This wasn’t just barracks kit either. The UCP ACU became part of the uniform worn by American soldiers during the Iraq and Afghanistan era, making it one of the defining US military camouflage patterns of the 2000s. The Smithsonian even holds an ACU set worn by an 82nd Airborne forward observer during deployments to Afghanistan in 2007 to 2008 and 2009 to 2010. (National Museum of American History)
The trousers themselves were designed around practicality, with large thigh cargo pockets, smaller calf pockets and provision for knee pad inserts. Standard ACUs used a tough 50% nylon and 50% cotton construction designed for military use. (CPE Ground)
The US Army eventually moved away from UCP, with Operational Camouflage Pattern taking its place and UCP being phased out for uniform wear by the end of September 2019. That means these now represent a very recognisable period of modern American military history. (Army)
