We were walking towards Askival on the Isle of Rum when someone pointed at a jacket and asked, “How old is that?”
That was it. The next half hour turned into a conversation about old fleeces, repaired waterproofs, kit we’d bought second-hand, and the ridiculous amount of perfectly good outdoor clothing already in circulation.
We were crossing rough ground in kit that had already seen years of use — and was still more than good enough for the job.
By the time Askival was properly in front of us, I remember thinking: this is exactly why The Kit Vault exists.
Not because second-hand is fashionable.
Because good kit lasts.
