Holiday block fish feeders are a convenient solution for feeding your fish while you're away. These blocks are made of a slow-dissolving material, often calcium or plaster-of-Paris, which contains small amounts of food embedded within.
How do holiday block fish feeders work?
When placed in the aquarium, the holiday block gradually dissolves, releasing food particles (typically small pellets) into the water over a set period, typically ranging from a few days to a couple of weeks.
The blocks are designed to provide a steady supply of nutrients without overfeeding, ensuring your fish stay healthy during your weekend break or longer absence. However, it's worth noting that the dissolution process can sometimes alter the water's chemistry, such as increasing its hardness.
Automated Fish Food Feeders
Automatic fish food feeders are the premium choice for feeding fish while you're away on vacation, or even during the day while at work. They can also be used as a general tool to automate your feeding times throughout the day, which is useful if you are forgetful.
Most automatic feeders are battery operated, screw onto the aquarium rim, and are generally suitable for both granulate and flake feed. This can cause a few issues though, particularly if your aquarium has a lid - they are predominantly designed for open-top aquariums, although some brands (like Jewel) make them to fit their own branded aquariums. Most automatic feeders can be freely programmed for up to three feeds per day, with the desired feed quantity dispensed also programmable.
