Piano sales, restoration, repairs, removals, tuning, sheet music for all levels including all exam pieces, and musical gifts. We are specifically open on Saturdays from 10am till 5pm, but we are usually around during during the rest of the week, including Sundays and evenings should you want to have a browse.

🎶 4 GIGS • 3 BANDS • 1 GREAT WEEKEND! 🎶

It’s a seriously busy few days of live music, and I’m delighted to be out playing four gigs with three brilliant bands! 🎷🔥

Starting things off with HonkyTonks on Friday 31st July at The Railway, Clutton, then straight into Saturday with The Terry Hill Big Band at Leighfest @ The Bell, Leigh on Mendip and Seyman at Mardons Community Club. Then it’s a private party in Bath on Sunday to round off the weekend in style! 🥳🍻🎵

Three very different bands, four cracking gigs, and plenty of tunes, dancing and good times along the way.

When you can’t be in the workshop… take the workshop with you! 🤣

Day two at Wyastone Recording Studio, and while a world-class pianist rehearses on stage, I’m in the corner cutting notch cushions on the guillotine.

One of the things I love about this job is making the most of every spare moment. If the concert piano is performing exactly as it should, it’s the perfect opportunity to get ahead with work for the next instrument.

Not a bad office for the day… and definitely not a bad soundtrack! 🎹🔧

Proud to be working with Nimbus Records at the beautiful Wyastone Estate. Today marked the first session with the wonderful Mark Bebbington, recording for EM Records.

From preparing the piano to hearing the first takes in such an exceptional acoustic, it’s a privilege to play a part in bringing projects like this to life. Looking forward to the rest of the sessions and hearing the finished recording.

88 spiral jack return springs… one piano. Here’s what went into fitting every single one.

Today I fitted a complete set of 88 spiral jack return springs. While the action was apart, I polished the damper lift spoons on the buffing wheel and cleaned the check wires and bridle wires before reassembly.

These are the details most piano owners never see, but they all contribute to a smoother, quieter and more responsive action.

🎵 If you hear me singing along to Marc Bolan… guilty as charged! 🤣

Question for fellow technicians: When you’re fitting a complete set of spiral springs, what other action components do you always service while it’s apart?

Blüthner Upright Whippen Restoration – Attention to the Details

Today’s job focused on restoring the Blüthner upright whippens.

The process:
• Remove all mechanical debris using a soft paintbrush.
• Carefully remove the jack spiral spring.
• Polish the metal components on the buffing wheel to remove oxidation and restore a smooth finish.
• Black lead the jack toe and the top contact surfaces to reduce friction and ensure smooth operation.
• Refit the spiral spring, ready for the next stage of the rebuild.

It’s the small details that make the biggest difference. Taking the time to clean, lubricate, and restore each individual component results in a quieter, smoother, and more responsive action that will perform reliably for years to come.

Working on my 1940s Blüthner upright piano today — specifically cleaning the glue residue off the balance hammers and notch cleaning ready for the new leather and felt to be fitted.

This is one of those proper behind-the-scenes jobs that doesn’t look very exciting but makes a massive difference to how the piano plays and sounds. Scraping out decades of old glue and gunk from every hammer shank notch, then carefully weighing and balancing each hammer so the touch feels even across the whole keyboard…

It’s pretty monotonous work 🤣 but someone’s got to do it if this beautiful old Blüthner is going to sing again!
