REOPENING TOMORROW!

It’s been a LONG summer and things have not been particularly straight forward (as with any building project) but there’s been some progress.

Those of you who came in over the summer for appointments will understand why we absolutely couldn’t operate as usual for safety reasons. But it’s been worthwhile and we’re ready to welcome you back for refill shopping from Tuesday (tomorrow) morning.

MINI MISS SOURDOUGH BREAD

We’ll have sourdough on the counter from Wednesday to Saturday.

LOCAL EGGS

Super local and super happy eggs available for you to refill from Where The F*** To Start so please bring along your egg boxes to refill (we do have reused boxes here too).

😵‍💫 THE COFFEE SHOP - hoping to be open as usual tomorrow BUT please note that we have been working in a stressful environment getting the shop ship shape again and ready for you to refill. I’m not sure how relaxing day one will be as to add to the building works we have a new payment system to adapt too.

Please bear with us tomorrow it’s going to be a fun day… I’m not sure how many treats we’ll get out in the morning - watch this space though as I’ll post as soon as we know 🧁🙏

We can’t wait to be able to welcome you back in to refill tomorrow and over the next week for a more relaxed coffee vibe as well 😅

AUGUST UPDATE:

To all our wonderful refill customers…

Some of you will have seen on various posts and stories that we will be open for REFILLS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY this AUGUST.

It’s not ideal but it means we can still get you into the shop… AND we can make use of a quieter month to allow our builders to crack on and get the place looking a bit tidier with the aim of finishing at some point in the future 😅😵‍💫.

We sadly won’t be opening for coffees or cakes as we have no seating available and our small kitchen is being re-homed.

WE WOULD STILL LOVE YOUR SUPPORT….
We are a small business and we’re still here (we’ve committed too much to this project to stop now 🫪), so other than kids club taxi driving 🫠 we are pretty much around for the most of August. For appointment bookings please call/WhatsApp or message us on +447811366547

JULY OPENING HOURS

Morning guys

Please check out our Opening Hours for July, we are keeping an eye on the weather as well as if it does get too hot 🥵 we’ll be likely to close early to keep the shop cool. So please keep an eye on our socials and on Google opening hours. If in doubt and it’s a hot day then please try to come in the mornings as it’s cooler in the shop.

📝 🚨We’re taking a few days off in July and will be CLOSED:
Tuesday 14th
Wednesday 15th
Thursday 16th
… to have a bit of time with the kids but we’ll be open otherwise.

Please note that AUGUST is going to be a tricky month for us, we intend to close the shop for the most part (sadly not to take time off ourselves) but we are currently trying to work out a way that customers may be able to order and collect or shop by appointment, as we are handing most of the site over to the builders to try and push things forward quickly in our quietest month of the year.

We are hugely appreciative to those of you still showing up and shopping with us whilst we’ve been updating the site and look forward to seeing lots of you in this month for PLASTIC FREE JULY.

NEW IN THE SHOP: PLASTIC FREE INSECT REPELLANT 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH
(a bit of a mouthful)

Our usual insect repelling routine in the shop is done with our daily mop adding 🍃 Peppermint Essential Oil to the mop water - then boosted with a spray in areas where needed.

We sell Peppermint Essential Oil as a REFILL. The strong smell of peppermint is a short term insect and rodent repellant as they can be confused by the strong smell - and keep away from the area.

However…there are times when ants get further into places than they are welcome, this tends to happen to us at home where we DON’T mop the floor daily 😬. On these occasions you may need something stronger…. enter DIATOMACEOUS EARTH 🤔.

I’d not heard about Diatomaceous Earth until a customer asked if we had it for a insect repellant hack. Anyway I did a bit of research and got some in.

This week I came in from work and our kitchen was crawling with ants 🐜😵‍💫 it was way past wiping down surfaces and spraying peppermint. So I wiped everything up and immediately ran back to the shop to grab a sugar shaker and fill it up with Diatomaceous Earth. I rapidly shook the powder around all the bottoms of the counters and edges of the kitchen in the areas affected. The next morning we were down to one or two ants on surfaces.

The great thing about DIATOMACEOUS EARTH is that it’s non toxic to humans and animals - but unfortunately for insects it works in a way that dehydrates them (often fatally). Now I don’t love this but I also didn’t want to have to throw out all the food in the kitchen - so sometimes needs must.

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH - consists of the fossilised remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled microalgae, that have accumulated over millions of years. As well as pest repellant it’s also used in Agriculture, in Filtration, in some toothpastes and some facial scrubs, as well as in Construction.

Anyway if you’re looking for an alternative to highly toxic insect repellant - then make the switch to DIATOMACEOUS EARTH, we’ve also got stainless steel sugar shakers in stock to dispense the powder where it’s needed.

SEVERE WEATHER WARNING 🔥🥵☀️ AMENDED OPENING HOURS

Afternoon guys,

Looking at the temperatures this week we’ve taken the decision to open the shop in the MORNINGS ONLY (outside these hours please arrange appointments).

We haven’t got built in AC yet and we will struggle to keep the shop cool as the day gets hotter - so we want to minimise opening and closing of doors.

Please could we request if you’re coming in to come in early if possible. If you are unable to please get in touch and we can open by appointment as we will be here. The fewer times the door open and closes the more chance we have of keeping the temp down.

AMENDED HOURS THIS WEEK*….

TUES 8.30am - 12.30pm*
WED 8.30am - 12.30pm*
THURS 8.30am - 12.30pm*
FRI 8.30am - 12.30pm*
SAT 8.30am - 12noon (usual Saturday hours)

Hi guys

It’s been a wierd old week for us as the road closure in Radwinter and angry van drivers in Water Lane are really off putting people coming in 🤦‍♀️ so we are hugely grateful to you lovely lot who are driving round and making it into the shop 😅🙏 big thanks from a small business 💖

Join us THIS SATURDAY as part of Big Green Festival.

We are offering a £1.00 FLAT WHITE this Saturday 8:30am-12:00pm (13th June) to customers who bring in their own REUSABLE COFFEE CUP.

One of our big passions here The Refill Barn is to reduce waste and a very big part of that is saying NO to disposable take away coffee cups...

Did you know, approximately 2.5 billion disposable coffee cups are used in the UK each year. This translates to approximately 7 million cups being discarded every single day. That’s enough to wrap around the Earth 5.5 times!

I don’t think it’s unrealistic to say that many daily coffee drinkers already own a reusable cup, so really we are trying to reinforce a change in habit in our community.

So bring your reusable cups!
