Making sense with Scents. Behind The Shed
All my life I have been creative, a trait I got from my father and his father. As a child I loved to draw and make things out of pretty much anything. I would also spend a lot of time in the shed / garage under my Dads feet while he was wood carving or working on his latest project. Never did he make me feel a nuisance and seemed to enjoy that I took an i
nterest, always taking the time to show and explain what he was doing. Over the years I’ve worked in various office / admin roles, taken further education courses and mostly worked cooped up in an office. Then, in 1995 came my biggest and best role to date. I became a mother to the first of my three children. I’ve enjoyed all my work roles with of course my lifetime role as Mum being my favourite and nothing could or would top that. The Shed has always played a role in my life along the way as a workspace for various hobbies such as up-cycling old furniture, gardening and various arts and crafts. I’ve also taken on various projects over the years from painting toy boxes, painting back drops for plays and my largest commission was the artwork for the children’s dining area in a well-known supermarket chain of the time with my artwork used as the template for every dining area nationwide. All these projects have been worked on in ‘The Shed,’ it has not always been the same shed, but I have not been and could not be without one. Many years ago I discovered candle making. Initially I made candles for myself and for friends and family as gifts. I was often told how well they would do if I started to sell them. But, as with all my projects I have worked on over the years, I never really thought further than a hobby that occasional brought me the odd earning opportunity. Being creative is just something I have always enjoyed. I have spent a long time mastering the art of candle making (perfectionist also) And in May 2018 after half a year of designing my own labels, logo, buying more equipment, my domain and setting up my workshop along with all the paperwork and boring parts of setting up a business. I took the leap and The Scented Shed was born. I feel blessed and so fortunate at how quickly word spread and it didn’t take long at all to get to a place where I now have regular customers and a great support network from friends, family and also from customers and other business. All this doing something I love !! To top it off as a true Daddy’s girl and just like him, I now spend most of my time in my shed (a very nice smelling shed too)
If the man who clearly passed on his creative flare to me and has always been my inspiration were here today I just know he would now be under my feet in my shed wanting to get involved. And, like him, I would absolutely love the interest he would have shown, and I know he would be proud. With the shed playing such a significant role in my life there really was no other logo or name I could even consider. All my products are home made by myself Kerry Wheeler in Charvil, Berkshire. I take considerable pride in ensuring my products are of the highest standard, using only natural, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, cruelty free ingredients. I thank you for taking the time to read my back story and welcome you to The Scented Shed
