The latest exhibition at Forge Mill Needle Museum & Bordesley Abbey Visitor Centre, Wandering Threads, is well worth a visit.

Wandering Threads brings together five talented textile artists whose work explores memory, place and the journeys that shape us. Through embroidery, print and mixed media, each piece reveals a story stitched into cloth, celebrating textiles as a living language of storytelling.

It's exactly the sort of exhibition that leaves you brimming with ideas and itching to get back to your sewing room!

🐝 The Great British Sewing Bee is back tonight! 🧵

It's the semi-final, and we're wondering...

We love watching the Sewing Bee, although we're pretty sure we'd be feeling rather differently if we were the ones standing in front of that sewing machine with the clock ticking! ⏰

As you can see the button has been added to my new kawanda sewing pouch but that is all I have managed to do as it was such a busy day at the SHQA show in Brighton! It is a good button out of one of my button jars. The new credit card machine had been busy, has behaved itself and I have managed to press the correct buttons in the correct order…so far.
The show is open again tomorrow, Sunday, 6 September at the Brighton Racecourse, postcode BN2 9XZ. Looking forward to seeing lots of you tomorrow.

I was born and brought up by the sea, but you forget how windy it can be! Unloading went well except for car doors slamming shut with the bracing breeze. Anyway pictures show us half set up, I had a pillar to deal with and then the end result. Everything is on display, can you spot the reindeer ?
The new Alice J bag is with me as are the Halloween swag and the Christmas baubles. We have the usual selection of batiks, Japanese metallic designs and the more unusual Japanese wovens, cork, Christmas sparkle and lots of patterns. Doors open tomorrow at 10am, see you there.

I have arrived in Newhaven, no I’m not going across to France I’m heading to Brighton for the first ever SHQA show! Set up day tomorrow Friday, I’ll take pictures or maybe a video, and then open for customers on Saturday and Sunday.
I always take some hand sewing with me when I’m travelling, I’m really pleased with the new little sewing case I have been creating, picture 1, it is a piece of Kantha work I started when I was in India a few years ago! Now finished and made into a sewing case. I’m crocheting the tie and there will be a splendid button very soon. Pictures 2 and 3 are the actual sewing projects I am working on for future classes.

🚗 And we're off to Brighton!

The car is packed (and we mean packed!) with fabric, quilts and plenty of Village Fabrics goodies, and Yvonne is heading down to Brighton today ready for the Sew Happy Quilters Association Quilt Show this weekend.

🦢 Baby Goose 💛

Some quilt names just happen. This one started with a goose… and ended up being named after our own little Gracie Goose. 🪿

The original design was a baby animals quilt featuring the sweetest little geese. But then I got thinking about my three grandchildren — and what each of them would have wanted on a quilt when they were little.

So, naturally, we added unicorns 🦄 and dinosaurs 🦕! Three children, three very different choices. Which one would you choose — goose, unicorn or dinosaur? And who would you be making it for? 💛

And yes, Grace is still very much Gracie Goose, so the name has stuck!

🎁 A lovely gift for a special birthday…

We recently received this lovely message from a group of friends who chose Village Fabrics gift vouchers for a very special birthday present:

We won't say too much in case the birthday lady happens to see this before her special day! 🤫🎂

☀️ The holiday staff have arrived. ☀️

Every summer we gain a few extra pairs of hands, and every summer we are reminded that nobody sorts a basket of fabric with quite as much enthusiasm as somebody who has been in the shop for eleven minutes. 😄

Jobs so far: hanging quilts 🖼️, arranging kits 🧺, testing the biscuit supply 🍪, and one high altitude pincushion recovery 🪜.

👀 Look carefully at this one. There is a fourth member of staff in this photo, under the table, and she appears to be having the best time of anyone.
