Wall of New.

The Wall of New 2.

I was a little hasty yesterday I posted TWON before I received a couple of deliveries. My mind just slipped away briefly. I even forgot The Eels reissue and the Whitney reissue (the band not the Dolly Parton covering Whitney) that were right in front of me. I like Eels, well I liked them, not really the first LP, but after that they hit a stride, until maybe ten years ago when they started knocking out the same LP every couple of years. It happens to them all. Name me a band who got better and better, whose later work was the best they produced. I’ll save you the trouble Talk Talk. The exception that proves the rule etc etc. anyway this is a decent Eels compilation. The Whitney LP is pretty good as well. Nice summer pop, blah blah mojito, a game of Perudo on the back porch, stridulation, petrichor, saudade. All my favourite words and a lovely glass of wine. Maybe some sumac chicken.

Anyway the main ones I forgot are the 1619 Bad Ass Band. Mid 70s funk and soul. Their only LP rereleased on Mr Bongo. Pictured is me holding the record high in the air. Weirdly.

And Charanjit Singh. Synthesising Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat. Indian Ragas wanged up with synths and drum machines. From 1982. It’s on LITA so a 20 page book, double LP, always sound great. Exciting.

Also 2 Thee Sacred Souls and Victor Axelrod 7s just arrived plus the stuff from yesterday. Only one Chronixx LP left and it’s sold out at distributor.

It’s market day in Redruth and Fairmeadow Carpark is free. That’s the one next to The Buttermarket.

Plus after months of lifts, buses and borrowing cars I have a new van. Last pic. Hooray.

Come and have a coffee, actually could you bring you own cup I’ve run out of card ones. See you later.

What’s new?

The Durutti Column are back with the first Lp for 15 years or something. We have the deluxe and the “normal” version

Leaf Hound reissue of their Growers Of Mushroom 70s stoner, proto metal, zeppy stuff. They can use that for the hype sticker if they want. Limited foil numbered.

The Chronixx LP is very good. The sound of Summer. I really like the acoustic stuff on here, and the 70s Lovers vibe. These are flying out, if flying out ever really happens in Redruth. They are selling like hot heavy cakes. We love heavy cake at Lucky’s. Better than saffron buns we say. The artisan baking lady made me heavy cake the other day. A rare treat.

Edit: I forgot the Whitney reissue of Light upon the Lake. Check it out. Saw them in Cornwall about 10
Years ago, singing drummer. Always a good thing.
Also Meet the Eels. Vol 1 of Eels compilation

We have a bunch of new in Jazz including this Don Cherry’s Organic Music. And a shout out to the Space:1999 soundtrack and the Monolake reissue.

Also a few decent new in second hand see story.

Mates, what an exciting week we have lined up for you. I had a very nice time in Liverpool and Cardiff and ended it seeing The Sugababes at Cardiff Castle with my kids and loads of their friends. It was banging. Hit after Hit, what a band, started with Freak like me, ended with Push the Button. I left before The Wombats came on. Don’t like them. Although as far as I’m aware I’ve never heard them. It’s a stupid name and it’s always best to base musical decisions on petty grievances.*

The reason I am here though is to say after MONTHS of waiting the Chronixx LP Exile has arrived. Originally due in March, maybe even earlier, in keeping with the brilliant Forever Living Originals business plan it arrives months later. Produced as everything is on F.L.O by Inflo. It’s the sound of the Summer. Probably. I haven’t played it yet. It’s going on the deck at 10.30, the sun will come out, the sky will light up the colour of eggnog and children will dance in the street.

Come and have a listen.

*I have heard them they have a song about Dancing to Joy Division. I rest my case.

Morning, How are you today? We had a lovely day yesterday for my youngest daughter’s graduation. We ended the day with delicious food, hake and saffron risotto, confit duck, braised ox cheek lasagne, gnocchi washed down with the finest wines known to man. (4th cheapest on wine list). It was great.

Which all means the Saturday Lad is running the shop all week. Here he is with The Shaggs Philosophy of the World reissue on . It’s not cheap but who wouldn’t want it. Hurry.

Next up is Monolake reissue Interstate. “A kaleidoscopic lattice of micro-rhythms and eight distinct ecosystems of sound.” It says on the press release. Go listen.

Next up is psychedelic disco influenced by old school Brazil. Looking forward to playing this when I’m back next week.

reissues on in. We have Ask me Tomorrow, Out of Tune and Excuses for Travellers. I took home a copy of Out of Tune last week to replace my lost CD it’s a lovely record. Perfect for summer evenings, sun setting, a negroni, crickets stridulating in the distance, a recent rain shower causing a beautiful petrichor.

The Smiths Best of part 2 and Part 2. Look, Morrissey is not a well person, he hasn’t made a decent record in donkeys years, but The Smiths, let’s not let him ruin these records.

New York Noise Dance Music from The New York Underground. Another Soul Jazz banger reissues.

I think that’s it, but I’ve done this from memory. I may have forgotten something. Go and visit today and tomorrow.

See you next week.

Good Morning,

I bought a pomegranate a few days ago. You know what I’ll do with that pomegranate, I thought, I’ll make a lovely lamb dish. A nice piece of lamb covered in spices, pomegranate molasses, and slow roasted. Delicious. I went to the shop, no molasses, no problem I’ll improvise, no lamb shoulders. I know what I’ll do I’ll get lamb mince, umm lovely. There was no lamb mince. I bought salmon. I made salmon with cumin, sumac and pomegranate. Lots of lemon and parsley. I’m afraid it didn’t really work. 7/10 only. Scroll for pic.

To reach said pic you have to scroll the wall of new and today we have…

Good Morning,

Walking to the shop today the sun was shining. I passed the postie “Good Morning Mr Lucky” he shouted, “keep me a Jack White LP please, I’ll be in after this mornings delivery.”
“No prob Mr Postie” I replied.
The Fruit shop lady tossed me an apple, I caught it with one hand and gave her a cheery wave with the other. The artisan bakery lady cycled past, her flowery dress billowing in the slight breeze she was delivering croissants to the French couple who retired to the area recently. Everyone was smiling and laughing. What a time to be alive, I thought. I heard music drifting out of a nearby shop, I felt a seismic shift in my mood, I felt irritated, irrationally so. The nearer I got to the music the more the feeling enveloped me, i was dizzy, I couldn’t stand, I sat down on the pavement, a passing cat rubbed his head against me, I shooed it away, even when struggling with such an intense disorientating experience I do not stroke random cats. You can’t be too careful. I could hear the music clearer now and realised why I was so anxious. It was Have a Nice Day by The Stereophonics, a record sure to instil absolute fear and loathing in anyone with a pulse. A terrible, terrible song. The worst band ever invented. The song ended and the DJ spoke, I felt a relief, I stood up, wiped the sweat from my brow and got on with walking to work to bring you..

The Wall of New.

Baby Rose,—Yearnalism, fresh from the great collaboration with BadBadNotgood is this solo LP.

CLUB HANDSOME.

Music to Dance to. All Evening. (Although maybe for the first half hour a little more mellow while people finish their dinner.)

It’s going to be a beautiful sunny evening in The Buttermarket. Dancing outside under the fading sun and festoon of lights. Lovely.
