The Redruth Record Club Christmas Party.

Where: The Railway Club.
When: Saturday 12th December.
Time: 7.30pm-11.30pm
Theme: The Christmas Party.

It’s Christmas, it’s a party, it’s a Christmas Party. Bring your records that you want to hear at the best party of the year. Put your name on the board, you are the DJ, and fill the dancefloor.

We are ahead of the game for once and are organised so put the date in your diary and we will see you on the 12th December.

We also have a couple of different type of events coming up in November so keep an eye on the socials.

A quick round up of this week’s releases before I head to the coalface.
First up Soul Jazz Studio One Dub Plate Special. First time on LP.

A rare one LP post.

Today is the 30th Anniversary of the release of DJ Shadow’s Entroducing. I know that because it says 30th Anniversary edition on the release that has just arrived and so I googled the actual date. I remember the first time I heard In/Flux, around 1995, after 6 years playing in a noisy guitar band, and was completely obsessed with it (and to a lesser extent Lost and Found). It was so different and new to me at the time. In the olden days we had these things called cassette tapes. I had a crappy mixer in our flat in North London and made a 45 minute version mixing both tunes on one side of a C90 so it went on forever. I would lie on the sofa and play it whilst “relaxing.”
The Mo Wax Headz compilation changed what I was buying and I sought out loads on Mo Wax, Ninja Tune, Wall of Sound and then Skint. I then got a job at Vital distribution who distributed most of those labels and got pre release tapes of all the releases. They are either still in the loft in my garage (4/10 chance) or I binned them in a house move 25 years ago when I decided I’d never play cassettes again. (9/10 chance)

Entroducing came out and was and is brilliant. I still have my original copy along with the 12s from that time and later the Product Placement and Brainfreeze mixes. By the time 2nd actual LP The Private Press came out we’d moved to Cornwall and had two kids. The LP was ok, but I never really loved it. I didn’t buy any more DJ Shadow and had probably moved on to whatever my little brain became obsessed with next.

I played In/flux when I DJed recently. People still asked what it is.

The half speed master of Entroducing first came out a few years ago and I didn’t take one. I think I will today.

PS. In/flux is not on Entroducing but What does your Soul look like and The Number Song and Organ Doner and etc etc are. Influx and Lost and Found are available though on the DJ shadow box set that I have one copy left of.

PS2. Great record spotting sleeve as well.

PS3. And we haven’t even mentioned the all samples thing.

Good Morning.

I AM BACK in the shop. Here I am holding records up in the air for likes. I got in at 8am this morning to sort all the stuff that came when I was away. There’s lots, I will forget stuff so come and look. Also it’s pasty day in Druth. I know everyday is Pasty Day but this is ACTUAL Pasty Day. Buy a pasty from , they are the best.

Next up latest Numero Group Eccentric Soul collection focuses on The Magic Touch label. Soul, R and B and proto disco 64-80. Nice price. Always good stuff on this comps. Etc etc

Dexys back as Dexy’s Midnight Runners with new LP LOVE. On Heavenly, produced by David Holmes. Everyone knows Don’t Stand me Down is one of my favourite LPs, man and boy. I struggled with the last Dexys LP. I haven’t heard this yet. I really hope it’s good.

Arab Strap Half Told Tales. Double LP

is playing shopkeep today and Saturday. Go and see him. I am going away for a few days. Hardest game in the book at the coalface day in, day out. Shop is open Friday and Saturday. But will be closed Tuesday 8th-Friday 11th. Back open on Saturday 12th which is also Pasty Festival Day in Redruth.

Punks, Rockers, Mods and Teds,

How are you today? Lying in bed, drinking your free sample of posh, good for you, Exhale Coffee, as recommended by Instagram, having just had your mushroom gummies, and about to do your chair t’ai chi. Me too mates, me too. Then I will head to the coalface of rock and roll and wait expectantly for your little smiling faces, your little hands clutching cash* ready to buy one of this weeks new releases.

First up is Eero Koivistoinen and his 1968 Finnish Psychedelic Free Jazz banger** Valakunta. Reissued by and available in Redruth for the first time ever I’m pretty sure.

Mike D out of The Beastie Boys first solo LP recorded with his kids and called Thank You.

The Muffs Live at Fort Apache Kim Shattuck’s band (who sadly died) who I think later went on to replace Kim Deal in the Pixies. The old band recorded at Fort Apache in Boston. It snowed all the time we were there. First person to buy this gets an exciting Fort Apache story. Maybe.

Pulp Live. Pulp band live. It doesn’t say where on the sleeve. Recentish gigs though I’m sure.

Michael Jackson-The definitive Collection.

A Certain Ratio The Joy of Sextet and Force Majeure. Underrated Manchester/ Factory band. These are unreleased versions of the tracks on the original LPs recorded at the same time.

Ty Segall Chrome.

Fatback Band Do the Spanish Hustle Joe Clausell remix, continuing the Spring Revisted series. Remixing tunes from the New York label.

Floating Points -Mere Mortals. After last years LP of bangers FP/SS Is back with (it says here) A 14-track symphonic ballet score for 80 musicians reimagining the Greek myth of Pandora, exploring curiosity, human transformation, and technology. Nice. He’s quite good isn’t he?

A new Dinosaur Jr LP There Near. I wonder what this will sound like?***
