I have always been fascinated by playing-cards - not their potential for making or losing money, but their history and design. More than thirty years ago I began to design my own Tarot pack, interpreting the traditional motifs in my own way rather in the style of an Italian artist of the late fifteenth century. I ran out of steam after producing twelve cards (the total in a Tarot pack is 78) and eventually I sold the originals on eBay, but I have kept scans, and these can now be seen on Simon Wintle's splendidly informative site ' The World of Playing Cards '.
