Sorry for the looong radio silence folks. But now my children are back at school after the (endless) summer holidays, I can get back to my sewing machine without fear of being interrupted every three seconds by demands for snacks and to referee arguments 🙄

So to kick off the Autumn term, I thought I’d show you what I’ve made this week before I put them in the post later - some fabulously squishy cushions made from leaver’s hoodies, with kangaroo pockets still intact on the other side.

Can’t think of a better way to upcycle a hoodie, especially one that has good memories attached to it!

Message me if you’d like one too. £30 + p&p.

Would they like a lovely memento to remind them of their time there?
I can make their school jumper or cardi into a super-cute cushion - perfect for a child's bed or sofa.
Their jumper will no longer sit unloved in a drawer, but be transformed into something useful, beautiful, and really squishy and cuddly too!

Have you got a too-small leaver's hoodie sitting unloved in a drawer that your child can't quite bear to part with?

Here's a cushion I made this week from a Priory leaver's hoodie that the owner had grown out of - proof (if any were needed!) that I can make awesome cushions from any kind of school jumper!

It's got a very fat and squishy feather pad inside and is just THE cuddliest, squashiest cushion - perfect for a teen's bed.

Get in touch if you would like one too!

Two cushions I have made from the ikat fabric I got at Teixits Vicens. They are lovely, and that beautiful blue is so vivid, it reminds me of holiday skies.
Monty is not impressed. Are cats ever impressed...?

I am on holiday in Mallorca, and today dropped in to Teixits Vicens, one of my all-time favourite places to buy fabric. They’ve been weaving it here since 1854, and the shop is an absolute feast for the eyes.

I always end up bankrupting myself whenever I visit because it’s also eye-wateringly expensive!

I’ll take a short break from school jumper cushions when I get home, and make some from the beautiful ikat and stripe I got today.

Total fabric-gasm! 🤪

Today's make - this jumper is made from a knitted fabric and I wasn't sure how easy it would be to work with, but it's come out great.

Many thanks to Tom B for donating his old jumper for me to experiment with!

Welcome to Two Birds Good!

I am Emma, and I make super-cute and cosy memento cushions from school jumpers.

Are your children leaving their school at the end of this term? Would they like a keepsake of their time there?

My son wanted to hang on to his old school jumper because he was sad he was leaving, but what good is a jumper hanging around in a drawer getting in the way, never to be worn again? My solution was to cut it up and make it into a cushion - now useful, cosy, and permanently on display!

It occurred to me that other children might like one too. It would make a lovely gift at the end of term!

If you would like one, this is what you do:

You send me the jumper or cardi in the post, with your contact details securely attached and whether you want a hollowfibre or feather cushion pad.

I can only work with a minimum size of age 7-8. The smaller sizes simply don't have enough fabric to make the envelope back.

Contact me first for my postal address - there’s a “contact me” button at the top of this page.

I will let you know when your jumper has arrived safely, and you can make payment via my paypal account [email protected].

If you need the cushion posted back, please add £2.50 post and packaging cost to the £17.50 (making a nice round £20).

I will then transform your jumper or cardi into a beautiful 30cm x 30cm keepsake cushion and post it back to you.

Most jumpers take about a week, so you should receive it back in 10 days or so. However if I think it will take much longer I will let you know.

If you want to give the cushion as a gift, I’m happy to gift wrap and send to an alternative address.

My son wanted a memento of his time at Holmesdale, so I made a cushion from his jumper. Instead of it sitting unloved in a drawer for ever more, it now takes pride of place on his bed.

So if your children are leaving their school this summer (or even if they're not and have just grown out of their jumpers!), I can make their jumper or cardi into a 30 x 30 cushion.

A hollowfibre or feather cushion pad is included in the price of £17.50.
