The Leatherman Story
There is an actual Leatherman. Tim Leatherman. And he's been the driving force behind Leatherman Tools for over 25 years.

A native Oregonian, Tim received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 1970.

After that, he held a variety of jobs including positions as an English teacher and a helicopter mechanic. Time spent travelling abroad ultimately led to the Leatherman multi purpose tool concept...

In 1975, Tim Leatherman was travelling across Europe when his car broke down, repeatedly. Although a competent mechanic, Tim realised his trusty scout knife couldn't do the job. What he needed was something better, more versatile and completely reliable.

Tim returned to the United States to launch one of the most successful garage start ups - Leatherman Tool Group was founded...today millions of do-it yourselfers around the world reach for their trusty Leatherman whenever a project or problem arises.
