Thursday 6th June is the 80th Anniversary of the D - Day Landings by British and allied troops on the beaches of Normandy, France. This turned out to be one of the most crucial actions of the Second World War leading to the defeat of Germany.

In 1994 the Royal Mint comemmorated this event with the issue of a 50p coin showing the landings themselves.
