Wooden Wildlife

Wooden Wildlife Wooden Wildlife has been created by me, Stewart Smith in the Highlands of Scotland. Hello! Wooden Wildlife has been created by me, Stewart Smith. Stewart

I started creating wooden wildlife as a pupil of Fortrose Academy in the Highlands of Scotland. My initial aim was to raise funds to go on a biology conservation expedition to Croatia. Organised by Operation Wallacea, a conservation research organisation, the trip combined a week working in the spectacular Krka National Park and a second week on Mljet Island in southern Dalmatia off the coast of D

ubrovnik. This amazing opportunity allowed me to work on real-world research programs alongside academic researchers. As a lover of nature, I really appreciate having had the chance to participate in this expedition. The robins I make are inspired by the late artist George Wyllie. With a thumbs up from Louise Wyllie (daughter), I set to work making heaps of these wee guys, selling them locally around the Black Isle and paying for what was the trip of a lifetime. Thanks to the Wyllie family for being so supportive. Now I am a Veterinary Bioscience graduate from Glasgow University and have moved back to the highlands. All the creatures for sale on this page are handmade by me using recycled and foraged materials. Thank you for your support!

I've been super busy at University so not had much time to make much wooden wildlife. However, Groam House Museum do have some wee robins for sale in their gift shop. 😀

Really chuffed to be collaborating with the George Wyllie Estate and selling these wee guys on their website in the run up to Christmas...

My robins are inspired by sculptures by the late George Wyllie and I'm really grateful to the Wyllie family for giving me the thumbs up to adopt his design to make my own robins.

Christmas is coming.... so we've added a couple of festive items to our online store. https://georgewyllie.com/store
New packs of Wyllie design Christmas cards and these fantastic wee robins inspired by George's own burd sculptures are available to buy now.
