Something a Little Different... Meet Liriodendron 'Snowbird'!

Looking for a tree that's guaranteed to get people talking? The beautiful Liriodendron 'Snowbird' is definitely something a bit different.

Its unusual tulip-shaped leaves are splashed with creamy white and green, making it look almost as though each leaf has been hand-painted. Even before it flowers, it's a real showstopper! Mature trees also produce unusual tulip-like flowers in early summer, giving this tree its common name – the Tulip Tree.

WE NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE

At Pengethley Garden Centre we're incredibly excited to be creating Orchard Press Café – a café inspired by the rich orchard heritage of Herefordshire.

But we'd love your help...

We're looking for old and new photographs, memories, stories, maps, artwork, and information about orchards, cider, perry, apple picking, fruit harvesting, local varieties, and the people who have helped shape Herefordshire's orchard history.

Whether it's a family photograph taken in an orchard, a story passed down through generations, or a picture of your favourite old apple tree, we'd love to see it.

Our aim is to celebrate and preserve the incredible orchard heritage of Herefordshire and the surrounding counties, and many of the photographs, stories and pieces of information you share may become part of Orchard Press Café through displays, artwork, menus, signage, social media, or other features within the café.

By sending us your photographs, stories or information, you are confirming that you own them or have permission to share them, and that you give Pengethley Garden Centre permission to use them in the development, promotion and future display of Orchard Press Café. Wherever possible, we'll be delighted to acknowledge contributors.

The Orchard Press Café – Opening Autumn 2026.

We know the unexpected school closures across Ross-on-Wye and Hereford this Wednesday and Thursday may make for a challenging couple of days for many families.

Whatever your plans, we hope everyone manages to stay safe and keep cool in the heat.

If you're looking for somewhere to escape the sun for a little while, you're always welcome to pop in for a stroll around the garden centre and a refreshing cold drink.

Take care, drink plenty of water, and look after yourselves.
