My Story Part 2

πŸ’œ Mystery boxes πŸ’œ

When I started The Spinneyfield Stitchery my whole intention and vision was based around these boxes. It still is. But it's not been a direct line to get there.

Like I said before I needed capital and sold small kits of designs I'd made myself. Sometimes these designs featured in the boxes, sometimes not. I have grown to the point I don't really have the time these days so they don't. In fact I've not done any designing in over a year. And there's also a spot of imposter syndrome!

So far I've done 3 Christmas boxes πŸŽ„, a winter one ❄️, a bee theme 🐝, a motivational one πŸ’ͺ, a spring one to name a few off the top of my head. I've loved every single one. When I started I only offered 10 for sale, but each time I built up my confidence, my customer base and my spending power πŸ’΅! I'm no hot shot, I don't have a warehouse, I don't have staff but I'm me, The Spinneyfield Stitchery🧡

Since 2019, I've met so many lovely designers and makers and customers and this just fills my little heart right up β™₯️. I've also met a few not so lovely people, and that plays on my mind, and can destroy small business owners πŸ’” if they let it get to them. I'm trying my hardest not to. There's also the chancers who want a freebie in turn for them giving you 'exposure'. 😎 No thankyou - that doesn't pay my taxes or my bills πŸ‘

So now I'm so many boxes in and over 2 years down the line I've had to think outside the box so to speak 😜 for new and exciting content that I've not done before. There's been... Scissor fobs, thread sorters, bobbin holders, ribbon, hoops, thread conditioner, hand dyed thread, hand dyed fabric, dmc thread, variegated thread, full kits, pin badges, needleminders, project bags, pattern markers, all sorts. WHAT ON EARTH SHOULD I DO NEXT?!

So if you've got this far, tell me what I should offer next...

πŸ’œ Sustainability πŸ’œ

A word we hear a lot these days. Usually in a negative way. But here I am trying to show you sustainability in a positive light. Its more than just recyclable materials and packaging. And relates to more than just the products.

At The Spinneyfield Stitchery sustainability is at the heart of what I do, when I'm curating boxes and sourcing materials. Yes the products and packaging must be recyclable/from sustainable sources ♻️. I've learnt a lot in the past two years about what is recyclable and what isn't. This part of the business is non-negotiable.

Secondly when I'm looking for collaborators or services, if you offer a sustainable or zero waste option, it sets you apart. I've worked with , , , and all for their sustainable, vegan or recyclable options.

Whether it's planting trees 🌳 for every sale or having zero waste 🚯 products, it means I have little guilt bringing my boxes to you knowing that I've done my best to ensure our footprint πŸ‘£ in this world is minimal 🌍

So if you've found a novel way to repurpose your boxes tag me I'd love to hear from you

Let's talk game changers. What has made your stitchy life a whole load more wonderful?

For me it was thread conditioner. I was 35 years old when I discovered stitching with thread conditioner. Not only that but it revolutionised the way I feel about stitching with metallic thread. Because we all know it looks superior but my god it is the devil to use. Some brands are better than others and some of you are more patient than I but I hated stitching metallics. Now, no bother.

These cutey little Christmas thread conditioners by are available now in the LAST lot of the Christmas 2021 stitchy boxes. There's a snowman, a sleigh and a reindeer and they each come in a lovely little drawstring pouch to keep it separate and clean.

πŸ’œ Integrity πŸ’œ

Do you have it? You can't buy it. You earn it and work hard for it. But once you have it, you gain respect in your field.

Here at The Spinneyfield Stitchery I work hard to ensure my collaborators are paid a living wage for their products. They've worked hard to design their products and they deserve to make a profit, not just break even. Its also skilled work, I couldn't get a kid to come do the work. So comments like 'I could make this cheaper myself' - could you really? Not with the same level of professionalism you couldn't and nor have you been the one to develop the product. In the creative world we don't take kindly to copyright infringement - because that's what that amounts to.

So be nice, be careful, be true to yourself and spread some Stitchy Kindness today. Happy Thursday folks.

Love H

πŸ’œ My Story πŸ’œ

It's been a while since I've put a post like this up. Seeing as I have a few more followers these days I best say hi πŸ‘‹

The Spinneyfield Stitchery (TSS) was born out of a desire to have more control and balance in my work/home life. I'd recently been on maternity leave in 2017/2018 when I returned to work in pharmacy that lacked any creativity and was all about the figures coupled with a toxic workplace. This just drained me and had me stewing all the way home in traffic to the point I had nothing left to give my family of me when I got home. So I changed jobs, took a pay cut, we moved house and my brain started instantly being more creative and I found more time to enjoy stitching. After a while the idea of mystery stitchy boxes came to me whilst trying to envisage what I would like to receive. I had a few stipulations what I wanted as a customer

πŸ’œ Affordable
❀️ No minimum sign ups
🧑 Selection of cross stitch supplies
πŸ’› Show me things I didn't realise existed/I needed!
πŸ’š Basically enable me!
πŸ’™ To be sustainable and not come with all the excess packaging

And I could not find it anywhere. So I decided to make my own. If I wanted these, then maybe others might too. But to support others I needed capital. Something I wasn't prepared to dip into my family's savings for. So I started designing. Which was simple seeing as I'd been trying for years to tweak patterns when I just couldn't find precisely what I had in mind. The rainbow alphabet range was imagined and provided me with my first sales, which allowed me to source products for the very first mystery box. A Christmas themed box in 2019. Swipe to see both 2019 and 2020. And from here TSS has grown in ways I had not imagined or planned but I'm here. My business has thrived through a global pandemic and through a second maternity leave. I'm no hot shot designer, I don't have 20k followers, I don't have warehouses full of stock. I am me The Spinneyfield Stitchery πŸ’œ

Do you stitch for the season, during the season or all year round?

I'm a bit of all 3 πŸ˜‚ I like to stitch things in time for Christmas. I like to stitch Christmassy things at Christmas and I usually end up stitching Christmas throughout the year! But I do like a fresh new start for January 1st.

How do you organise your stitching?
