Otherworld Miniatures

Otherworld Miniatures Welcome to Otherworld Miniatures, producers of 28mm fantasy gaming figures inspired by the iconic imagery of the early role-playing games.

Our miniatures are expertly hand-sculpted and cast in high-quality pewter or resin. Our Company
Otherworld Miniatures is a small, independent miniatures company dedicated to producing fine quality 28mm fantasy gaming miniatures for ‘old school’ roleplayers, wargamers and collectors. We have been in business since November 2006, and have so far produced ranges of Giants, Demons & Devils, Humanoid T

ribes, Undead, Dungeon Vermin and Dungeon Monsters, Wilderness Encounters and Men of Evil. We have commissioned some of the best sculptors in their fields, such as Paul Muller and Kev Adams, as well as some talented newcomers to the industry like John Pickford, Jo Brumby, Matthew Bickley, Andrew Rae and Pedro Navarro. We have plans to work with other renowned artists in the future. Our Location
We are based near Cambridge in the UK, but we are happy to supply every corner of the World with our figures! If you are a store owner, and you would like to stock our miniatures, please get in touch. Customers will always, however, find a quick and efficient service buying our products through our webstore, or by visiting our stand at occasional wargames shows and gaming conventions in the UK and Europe. And if you’re in the area, you’d be very welcome to drop in to our office/workshop for a chat. Our Miniatures
Our figures are sculpted in a variety of media, moulded and cast in pewter or resin, and packaged in attractive blister packs and boxes. We describe our miniatures as 28mm, meaning that an average-sized human would stand at around 28mm tall. However, not many of our figures are average-sized humans! For monsters, we use a scale of 5mm on the model to represent 1 foot of height. So a 10 foot tall Ogre would be represented by a 50mm tall miniature. Most of our figures are modelled with ‘slotta-tabs’ and supplied with appropriate plastic bases. If you have any suggestions about miniatures that you would like to see us produce in the future, please contact us for a chat or visit our forum, where you can also find up to date information about new releases and future plans.

My gaming friends will be saddened to hear that John Blanche has died. If you didn’t know his face, you will certainly be familiar with his art, and the enormous impact that his work has made on the gaming industry.

To my eternal embarrassment, I did not know his face when I first met him at a gaming convention several years ago. He saw my Otherworld name-badge and told me that he was a big fan of Otherworld Miniatures, and that he’d bought and painted a lot of them for his own collection. Otherworld was a small enterprise, so I knew most of my regular customers by name. I asked his name and was mortified when he told me. He, and several of the renowned fantasy artists with him, thought it was hilarious.

I tried to make up for my nerd faux pas by sending him some complimentary miniatures, along with a note of apology. He insisted on paying for them in the form of a copy of his art book Ratspike (which we had been talking about at the convention) and a signed copy of the Warhammer FRP rulebook.

John will be sadly missed by all who knew him, and many who didn’t. He leaves behind an incomparable legacy of wild creativity.

I’ve no idea who put it together, but whoever it was, thank you!

“Holly, you said this wasn’t going to be nerdy. This is super-nerdy. Look!”
Debbie, Stranger Things season 5 finale.

Most of you will know some of this story, some of you will know most of it.

Just over 20 years ago, I was putting together a Dungeons & Dragons game for a group of friends. I was using my collection of Dwarven Forge scenery, but something was missing. I needed a model of an idol, just like the one depicted in the iconic artwork of the 1st edition AD&D players’ handbook, but I couldn’t find one. So I decided to make my own.

It looked OK, considering my limited sculpting ability, and the game was a great success. But I started wondering how great one of these idols would look if it was sculpted by a professional miniature sculptor. I’d been talking online with Paul Muller earlier that year after giving him a digital camera, so I asked him if he would be interested in a commission.

The model that he made for me was superb, exactly what I had wanted to add a touch of horror to my game set-up. A took some photos and posted them on the Dwarven Forge forum. My in-box was quickly flooded by requests to buy a copy of the model. I hadn’t really considered this, I was just going to paint the master model for my own use. But I quickly worked out that if I could sell 25 castings, I could recover the cost of the sculpting commission, and my own model would cost me nothing!

So I found a mould-making and casting company and we got to work. Those first 25 castings sold out in days, so I ordered another 50, then another 50, then 100. Otherworld Miniatures was born! Over the next 18 years, that Demon Idol became the face of Otherworld, our signature product, and I even used it as the company logo.

The miniatures that I made were always really for me, the figures that I had wanted since starting to play D&D as a kid, but nobody else made. I only ever made a modest living from what was a very niche venture, and sometimes it was tough just to keep going, but it was a lot of fun making my monsters. I worked with some wonderful, creative people and made some great friends along the way too. And last year, after 18 years of Otherworld Miniatures, I retired and found new homes for all of my models.

So, now we fast-forward to New Year’s Day 2026. I was sitting at home with my family, enjoying the much-anticipated finale of the brilliant Stranger Things saga. And in the final, emotional scene, with the kids playing their last game of D&D together, there is my Demon Idol on their gaming table! I’m not afraid to say that it was an emotional experience, but a very pleasant surprise. It felt like a fitting ending for Stranger Things, and Otherworld Miniatures too!
