Art at the Alex

Art at the Alex 'The Alex' (Rugby) is an independent, licensed arts centre with exhibits, events and artist's studio on site. Quirky place to spend time. All art is local art!

Art at the Alex is a venue for artists to work and meet and a licensed cafe which their works adorn. Studios to resident artists Steve Davies (IG: stevedavise1st) and Chris Pegler (IG: peglerpurl) this aims to be a hub for local artists and makers. The Alex was formerly the Alexandra Tavern (and previously the Alexandra Arms). It has a lovely garden and space where the brewery was and these spaces provide great areas to hold extra events. Which it plans to do most weekends through the year.

We are not open to the public during August. But the studios will be working away on various projects, the groups that meet here will still meet, the garden is getting a makeover, and artists whose work you see here can be found at various places off site. Especially during the Summer Sessions in Caldicott Park on 22nd August.

Stash sale today! We do this twice a year and there are bargains to be had. Watercolour paper. Canvasses. Fabric. Jewellery. A table loaded with creative tools, paints etc. Come and see!

Is the Tunnock's teacake at the opening ceremony for the making you feel nostalgic? You can pick up a real one to eat at and you can also admire the Tunnocks Caramel Wafer (for sale £125) painted this month by Baker as part of the art showdown on 4th July. (His large painting of a teacake has already found a home (last exhibition) with Alex owners Chris and Steve.

Our 'Made at the Alex' exhibition shows work by studio artists, demonstrators and stewards here. Those who visit know that you often see artists at work as well as artwork on display.
The whole point is to show work made at in the past 12 months so we are pleased to also show work by six of the artists who have been doing life drawing here. So quite a diverse range on display and just a small look at what is made here.
Open until Thurs-Sun until 1st August, 11-4.
