There's something about a rainbow that I absolutely love. It's a fleeting glimpse of something ephemeral and colourful that gives me hope for the future.

This one's a little more permanent, a handmade recycled Sterling Silver necklace with natural ethically sourced Rubies, Emeralds and multicoloured Sapphires.

One of my favourite pieces to make are gemstone stationed necklaces, and they're not hard to make but just need a bit of planning.

I start by threading the chosen stones on unclosed wire stations & joining them together so I can get an idea of the total length of the stone stations. Then it's time for some maths! I subtract that length from the ideal finished necklace length to see how much chain I'll need and once I have that measurement I then divide the chain length by the number of stations, which gives me the length of each chain piece needed to join each station.

Then it's on to the fun part. I get into a rhythm making these, it's total zen. Start with the middle station, working side to side so that you can adjust the length if necessary. Thread the chain onto the wire, looping the end tightly & keeping the wire taut, wrapping it around the base close to the gemstones at the end of the station. Repeat until you reach your ideal length and there's your finished necklace.

It's the Saturday before next week's show so I'm hard at work all weekend finishing off everything. Loving the colour mixes of these tumbled chip bracelets. I wanted to do sea foam, watercolour and jewel colourways throughout this collection so chose the gemstones to match. I don't know which I like most!

I love seeing these all together! Working on these new Birthstone bracelets, and of course I couldn't resist trying them all on at the same time!

I always make in a small batch production line when I have a large amount to make, so thread all the beads, close all the ends, attach all the clasps and attach all the extension chains as it makes production so much quicker and you can get into a proper rhythm. But sometimes it's really lovely to just pause like this and enjoy what you're making.

I always make my necklaces extendable so that they fit everyone. I'm loving curb chain at the moment because it's got a clean, linear look which is the perfect foil for the new jewellery range I'm working on.

But closed curb chain has really tight small links which don't fit heavy 0.7mm jump rings (I don't use thin jump rings because they're much too flimsy). So to get round this I open up the ends carefully by gradually stretching them open with a pair of tweezers.

It's quick and easy once you know how, and then you have extension chains that seamlessly blend with your necklace.

Last year I made my sister a solid gold and raw diamond nugget necklace for her birthday, so this year I thought she needed some earrings to go with it! My sister likes hoop earrings the most and I wanted to do mixed metals, so I wrapped 9ct gold wire over sterling silver hoops with the raw diamond nuggets. They look great, and she loved them! There's a definite bonus to having a jewellery designer for a sister! 🥳

I'm a visual person, I think in pictures. I've just designed a new jewellery collection and need to order the gemstones to make it up.

I've found the easiest way for me to plan my gemstone order is to sketch quick ideograms of my designs in my notebook. It lets me see at a glance (in one place) which designs use what stones so I can easily estimate what I'll need to make the samples. This is what helps me, hope it helps you too!

However it doesn't stop me from also chucking in a few things that caught my eye while I was shopping...
