Hydrangea Colour Advice.
As some of you will know hydrangea colour is determined by the soil pH. Acidic soil (pH 5.5 or lower) produces blue flowers, neutral soil (pH 5.6 to 6.5) creates purple blooms, and alkaline soil (pH 6.5 or higher) results in pink or red flowers.
We sell hydrangeas such as red prince but be aware you may have acidic soil turning your red prince into blue prince 😅.
To help get the colours you want you can plant and top dress yearly with ericaceous to get blues and purple, or top dress with lime to get pinks and reds.
You can confuse a hydrangea to produce different coloured flowers by changing ph in different areas of the root zone. I've seen the hydrangeas we have planted at the glamping site have done this (see pics)
