🌽 Maize harvest has started! 🚜

A quick heads-up to anyone using the footpaths across the farm over the next few hours — there will be large machinery moving around and crossing footpaths, so please take extra care, keep dogs close and give tractors and trailers plenty of space.

We’ll always do our best to look out for you, but visibility from these machines can be limited.

Recent concerns around Salmonella and food traceability are a good reminder of why knowing where your food comes from matters.

When you buy eggs directly from Highfield Farm, there’s a clear line of accountability. Our eggs come from our own hens, right here on the farm - not through a long supply chain involving multiple farms, packing centres and distributors.

Many supermarket eggs are already around 2 weeks old before they even reach your kitchen.

Our eggs are collected, packed and put straight into our vending machine, often the same day they are laid. 🌾

Fresh eggs have many benefits;

🥚 A firmer white — as eggs age, the thick white becomes thinner and spreads out more when cracked.

🌞 A more rounded yolk — fresh eggs hold their shape better, giving you that deep, domed yolk that’s perfect for frying and poaching.

🍳 Better cooking performance — fresh eggs are ideal for poached, fried and soft-boiled eggs because they stay together in the pan.

🥚 PULLET EGGS – NOW AVAILABLE! 🐔

Our young hens have started laying, which means our fresh pullet eggs are now available from the farm.

Pullet eggs are the first eggs laid by young hens. They’re a little smaller than our regular eggs but have the same rich flavour and beautiful golden yolks.

fantastic value for fresh, pasture-raised eggs.

Our hens spend their days roaming freely through our orchard, foraging naturally and enjoying fresh grass every day.

This is what pasture-raised really looks like.

Our hens spend their days exploring the fields, foraging naturally, before producing the fresh eggs that end up on our plates.

Nothing beats a perfectly poached Highfield Farm pullet egg with that golden, runny yolk. 🌿🥚💛

A huge thank you to everyone at Groundswell for inviting me to speak on the “Trees Back on the Farm: Can Agroforestry Actually Pay?” panel. 🌳

It was a privilege to share our journey at Highfield Farm and explain how we’re integrating silvopoultry, with our pasture/orchard-raised hens and sheep grazing amongst apple, pear, cherry & plum trees.🍎

Trees do far more than enhance the landscape. They provide natural shade and shelter, helping hens stay cooler during hot weather, reducing stress and encouraging more natural ranging behaviour. Better welfare leads to healthier birds, and we believe that shows in the quality of our eggs.🐓

It was fantastic to discuss the commercial realities of agroforestry alongside the environmental benefits, and to hear so many inspiring ideas from fellow farmers throughout the event.

A big thank you to the organisers, my fellow panellists, and everyone who came along, asked questions and shared their own experiences. Groundswell is a brilliant reminder of what can be achieved when farmers come together to learn from one another.

Looking forward to putting even more ideas into practice back at Highfield Farm.✅
