Independent Businesses of St.Austell Market House The St Austell Market House:

The present grade II listed building replaced an earlier Market House. The Market House presently houses the St.

The St.Austell Market House is a Grade II listed building which houses a wide selection of independent shops - contact shops directly for their opening times as they may vary. It was opened in 1844, designed by Cope and Eales of London and built by Olver and Sons of Falmouth, at a cost of £6,000. The building has two floors with five splendid arched windows lighting the original Town Hall on the first floor. At one time it also housed the Fire Station and two Police cells! Stone stairs lead from a secondary entrance to what was once the Town Hall and later the Picture House. There is a vaulted ceiling over the main entrance hall which is supported by granite pillars and from each side of the ground floor market hall where the butchers plied their trade, stone stairways lead to the gallery landing on the first floor, beyond which is a further stone paved area, probably used for general stallholders. The Market House’s most notable feature is it’s superb timbered roof, intricately constructed from yellow pine and spanning the full width of the building. At the time of it’s construction it apparently had the largest unsupported span of any roof in Britain, if not Europe! Austell Town Museum (this is not open during the winter) and a varied selection of shops, most of whom are open five days a week. Current Tenants

Just a warning to all shops in and around st. austell town! Last night at 3am an attempt was made to break in the side entrance of the Market House. A witness described a man took a hammer to the glass reinforced door while a woman looked on. The couple had a dog with them dark coloured Frenchie.

After a short time breaking the window they wernt able to get through the door and made their way down market hill to the Main Street!

The two never managed to get into the Market House but we just want to make sure all local businesses are aware that these two are going around looking for places to break into!

The door is being repaired today and we’re hoping that we don’t see any further attempts.

All details have been passed to the police!

Ezme's sweet little mini mugs (and full sized ones too!)

Ezme is one of our open-access potters. Being able to offer open access is one of the main reasons Flookan exists, not just to provide one-off workshops and classes, but to give people the opportunity to continue and develop their pottery journey.

Our open-access members have access to a well-equipped studio, support with their making, and a friendly, welcoming community of fellow potters.

If you're interested do drop us a message to talk through the options.

One of my very first vases is now happily living with a lovely friend 💕 There’s something so special about seeing a piece I made being used and loved in someone else’s home.

And these hydrangeas! 💜 I love how soft and dreamy they look with the pink glaze, especially against that gorgeous deep blue wall. Such a beautiful little colour moment. 🌸💙
