The Summer season has well and truly started now so for those lucky enough to be visiting Salcombe or St Mawes, please come and say hello!

Daisy or I will be welcoming you to the St Mawes shop, (right opposite the quay, you can’t miss us) and Jessica and Daisy will be there in our beautiful store on Salcombe, (just before the ferry steps).

My mother had a shop in London in the 80’s. It was called Just Gingham and she was so ahead of the times!

Sadly she died over 30 years ago but she has always been my great inspiration, in so many ways.

I love gingham and I’m sure it’s partly because I lived and breathed it back in my youth.

This year it’s a lot about gingham at Bridie & Bert.

Fresh, pretty, quite Doris Day and all that I love and a huge accolade to my mother.

The skirts are smocked at the waist and scalloped at the hem, they can be worn on the waist, on the hips or even as a fun sun dress - Three in One!

Our shorts are adorable and the slouchy trousers are flying out already. Perfect for day and night.

And all 100% cotton

And the accessories! Tote bags, mini bucket bags, zip up wash bags and drawstring laundry bags and smalls/shoe bags. Everything you could need for those Summer get aways.

All in Apple Green and Sea Blue Gingham.

Here’s a fact for you.

Salcombe seagulls are louder than St Mawes seagulls. Ridiculous I know, but it’s a fact. I’m in Salcombe at the moment and believe me, it’s true.

But now for something so much more exciting…..

Bridie & Bert, Salcombe is re-opening for the season this Saturday and I have such a suprise to share very very soon. It’s exciting, quite novel and I hope hugely successful. All will be revealed in a day or two.

I love my two shops and I love being a shop keeper. The bad days make the good ones so much more appreciated and there are certainly times when I have to confess I feel defeated, exhausted and very sorry for myself which is Pathetic, I know.

But I am never truly defeated and if I should find myself wallowing (which is thankfully rare), I just get a grip and move on.

Last week started so very badly but within 48 hours I turned it round; and it all worked out better than I could have imagined and all was well.

So to all those business owners out there, I wish you a fantastic season ahead full of optimism, lots of laughter, lots of sales and the knowledge that you are not alone and that there are so many of us out here, supporting each other as best we can.

I’ll be back soon!
