💡 Sensory Saturday 💡

This week's 'Sensory Saturday' feature comes from 💚

Her page is absolutely fantastic, please go and follow! Emma started her page when her little one turned 6 months old. Starting as BLW weaning page but due to lockdown and restrictions this soon moved to an amazing play based account to share simple cost effective activities with others and gain the same in return.

Emma features so many great sensory activities on her page but I absolutely loved the 'Sensory Rave' post (featured in the first photo 📷) and it looks like it was thoroughly enjoyed by her little one. They used lights and sang nursery rhymes for an effective sensory experience.

Light play is such an amazing way in which to stimulate children's sense of sight and as you can see from the photos it can be achieved in a variety of simple ways. Carter became so interested in lights around Christmas, after seeing them on the Christmas tree. We then invested in a range of light based play resources including light up balls, light projectors and we even made him his own little den with fairy lights 💡

Research has shown that involving babies in sensory experiences from birth helps to boost their brain structure. 🤯

A hugely important fact that all parents should know is that during the first three months of a baby’s life, two million neural connections are created in their brain every second. That is why sensory stimulation from birth really is so very important, it helps create those new pathways in the brain by giving the baby new sensory experiences

🖐🏽 Sensory Saturday 🖐🏽

Each Saturday I will share an easy at home sensory activity suitable for babies aged 0 to 12 months.

I think this will help us all develop a bank of activities to support our children's learning and development at home during lockdown.

I would ABSOLUTELY love to hear all about your at home sensory activities too. If you would like me to feature your activity on Sensory Saturday please DM me.

Let's share some amazing ideas 💡

Today's Sense: 👁Sight 👁

💥 Did you know that babies eyes begin growing at around week 4 of pregnancy and can perceive light at around week 16. But eyelids remain closed until 26 weeks gestation? 💥

💚
In the first six months of life, a baby’s eyesight develops rapidly, since vision is closely linked to brain development. At first, the farthest your baby will be able to see is the distance from your arms to your face (about 8 to 10 inches). At this stage they can only see black, white and grey and it will be a few more weeks before they can distinguish the first primary colour: red. At around 2 to 3 months a baby may start to recognise your face but it is still very blurred.

💚
During this time babies respond best to high contrast images and items in black and white. Our 'Newborn Bundle Box' includes high contrast images cards, and sensory items in black, white and red to support this!

💚
At around 3 to 4 months babies can see anywhere from several feet in front of them to all the way across the room and your baby’s vision has nearly fully developed. Babies can notice differences in shades of color (especially red and green) and may even begin favoring specific ones.

💚
Babies will see the full spectrum of colors by the time they reach five months of age. Our 'Sensory Exploration' and 'Something Sensory Bundle Boxes' support sight development from around 4 months, stimulating your baby's eyesight with a variety of vibrant colours.

💚 The Face Behind The Brand 💚

Hi guys, I would like to take the time to introduce myself. I am Laura Jayne, the face behind Let's Get Sensory. I am an Early Years Specialist and Teacher currently on maternity leave after having my first baby in August 👶🏽

Having a baby during a pandemic has been tough, and I am sure all parents can relate to this. As an early years specialist and teacher, I know how important quality early years education is and how us as parents play a massive part of that role. When imagining what life would be like with my new baby, I envisaged baby classes and meeting new parents & families but due to restrictions this has not happened 🌈

Since this my vision and the vision and purpose of 'Let's Get Sensory!' is to make bonds with new parents and families in whatever means possible. My passion has always been to support and help deliver quality early years education and through 'Let's Get Sensory!' I endeavor to continue this 💫

I look forward to providing affordable resources in the form of sensory boxes and toys and supporting parents to delivery effective sensory sessions with these resources 💚

On my journey so far I have already 'met' some amazing people and I can not wait to see what the future has in store!
