✨ Transforming the look of oak without losing its natural character.

This hallway, kitchen, dining room and utility originally had the rich, warm tones typical of an older oak floor. Our client wanted a softer, more neutral finish to better complement the style of their home.

After preparing the floor, we applied one coat of Bona White Primer, followed by two coats of Bona Traffic Raw.

Rather than bleaching the timber, Bona White Primer uses subtle white pigments to gently neutralise the warm amber tones, creating a lighter, more contemporary appearance while allowing the natural grain and character of the oak to remain the focal point. The Bona Traffic Raw finish then protects the floor while maintaining the beautiful, ultra-matt look of untreated wood.

The result is a brighter, fresher space that still celebrates the natural beauty of the original oak floor.

Sometimes a project deserves more than a quick video, but here’s a glimpse of this bespoke installation featuring smoked black distressed planks, handcrafted parquet, and a precision brass inlay framing the hallway tiles. Designed in collaboration with the client and their interior designer, then expertly supplied and fitted by the Salisbury Wood Floors team to bring their vision to life.

With the building project now nearing completion, we’re carrying out the final clean and applying a fresh maintenance coat of oil to ensure the floor looks its absolute best ready for handover.

It’s the finer details that transform a floor from beautiful to truly bespoke.

It’s always incredibly satisfying bringing an original parquet floor back to life especially when there’s a lot missing.

When we first arrived, this floor had seen better days. Years of wear, previous alterations and damaged sections meant it needed much more than just sanding.

Over the years, we’ve built up a large stock of reclaimed parquet blocks, allowing us to carefully match and replace damaged or missing sections before sanding and refinishing the entire floor. This helps preserve the original character while creating repairs that blend seamlessly into the existing floor.

The result? A beautifully restored parquet floor that’s ready to be enjoyed for many more years.

We believe that, wherever possible, original wood floors deserve to be saved rather than replaced. Seeing transformations like this is exactly why we do what we do.

A stunning master bedroom and dressing room completed in a beautifully textured Ripped Oak floor, finished in a bespoke colour created specifically for our client.

What makes Ripped Oak so unique is the way the surface is crafted. Rather than being sanded completely smooth, the timber is processed to follow the natural grain, creating a textured finish that highlights the character of the oak. The result is a floor that not only looks incredible but can genuinely be felt underfoot, bringing a natural warmth and authenticity to the space.

Bedrooms are the perfect place for a floor like this. The texture, the warmth and the connection to the natural timber create a completely different feel to a traditional smooth floor. It’s one of those products that has to be seen and felt in person to be fully appreciated.

It was great to return to this property after previously installing the parquet flooring downstairs and complete the next stage of the project. We always appreciate being invited back by our clients and trusted with another part of their home.

A classic pattern, redefined.

Herringbone is timeless but scale and layout can completely transform the feel of a floor.

Here we’ve installed a large format, bespoke double herringbone using rustic oak blocks, creating a pattern that feels both traditional and architectural.

The larger blocks give the floor presence.
The double layout adds rhythm and depth.
And the natural variation in the rustic oak keeps it grounded and full of character.

It’s a subtle shift from the norm, but one that makes a real statement.

Design is often about taking something familiar… and doing it differently.

There are many ways to incorporate a brass inlay within a floor and each one depends on the design, the material, and the way the floor is being installed.

In this project, we’re forming a bespoke border using a 10mm solid brushed brass inlay, carefully set into barn grade oak planks, distressed and oiled to bring out their natural character.

The contrast works quietly but powerfully…. warm oak tones against the clean, refined line of brass.

Every strip is measured, cut, and set by hand to ensure a seamless finish through the border.

A small detail… but one that completely elevates the floor.

Rustic oak engineered plank fitted on this one, featuring a bevelled edge and a lightly distressed finish to give it that natural, lived-in look.

Finished with two coats of hardwax oil for a durable, low-sheen finish that really brings out the character in the grain.

Bespoke flooring with real character.

This oak floor features hand scraped and hand-eased edges with a very subtle bandsawn texture, giving the boards an authentic, time-worn feel while still keeping the surface refined and elegant.

The timber was smoked and hand-oiled (Satin), enhancing the natural grain and depth of colour while maintaining a traditional, handcrafted appearance.

Details like these create a floor that feels truly unique and full of character.

Another beautiful staircase transformation.

We clad these stairs in prime grade European oak, finishing the installation with bespoke oak stair nosings for a sharp look. The flooring continues onto the landing, where we created a 45° transition to follow the L-shaped landing layout, giving the space a clean and balanced finish.

This amazing prime grade European beech herringbone parquet floor has been a feature of the hall for decades. Beech was commonly used in school halls across the UK because it is extremely durable and provides a consistent appearance across large spaces.

As part of the restoration we carried out a full professional sanding process before finishing the floor with Bona Traffic HD Matt, a commercial grade lacquer designed for high-traffic environments such as schools & busy halls.

The result is clean, fresh and durable!
