**** Major magazine archive 1970 - 2025 ****

This week as part of my major collection downsize I have started to list some of the magazines from the 100's I have collected since my childhood days.

All have been stored flat in archival conditions and come in as close to mint condition as it gets.

In chronological order these magazines follow Elton's career in its entirety and remain complete so cover many other artists as well as forming a social history trail via other articles and advertising.

The majority feature Elton on the front cover with fantastic multi page text and pictorial articles, often very candid interviews.

Some are now extremely rare. The Paws magazine was subscription only via Battersea Dogs Home so was never available on the news stands and rarely if ever comes to the market nowadays.

***** The Signed Collection from over the years *****

As an avid collector and Elton historian over the years I have been fortunate to be in ownership of many officially signed items from Elton, both in person and other bona fide sources.

These include from the early 70's days items such as " The Goal Diggers " song and " Captain Fantastic" promo brown vinyl . This goods me good reference points for making a decision if an autograph is genuine from that era , we even have the pre-printed autograph from the the 1975 picture sleeve on Island Girl as a good reference point.

This signature pretty much remained unchanged throughout the 70's & 80's which I can confirm from a personally signed item I received from a letter sent to Elton's management company in the mid 80's which ended up in me recieving a signed promo photo.

During the mid 90's and throughout much of the 2000's Elton's autograph totally changed for some reason and this is an autograph we have to be very careful with as it's easier for the corrupt out there to attempt to forge.

Strangely in more recent times since the pandemic era Elton's autograph has reverted back to have more similarities to his 70's autograph just to add to the confusion. This can be seen on officially signed items such as the limited signed copy of H***y Chateau available from Selffriges at the time and various other promo items signed for the " Lockdown Sessions " and his Christmas single with Ed Sheeran where he signed an article card for the realease , both available through official channels at time of release and again all giving us good references points from 2019 onwards. Elton was still using the 90's - 2000's autograph right up to the point of the " Me " book signings at Waterstone, another in person autograph I was lucky obtain.

Having received many in-person autographs from Elton from 1999 - 2019 , including countless ones at in-concert stage signings , I can spot a forgery in an instant and it's sad that right now the likes of eBay are awash with them and even more sad people are buying them.

With phase one of my listings from last week now online which included some of the rare items that made my collection unique, this week I delve into my major archive of printed matter across my massive collection of over 150 programmes , tickets and other concert ephemera that form part of the downsize.

I will be releasing one of my stage signed programme amongst this next upload of items to the Elton John Store shop at eBay

I will also be adding some magazines of the 100's in the collection, one of which dates back to 1974 and has been signed by Nigel Olsson inside the magazine that is more of a book.

**** The Story of how one of the rarest Elton CD's nearly ended up in a charity shop ****

And so with the downsize of my own collection to a much more manageable size underway the holy grail of Elton collectables returns to the open market for the first time in 12 years.

After 54 years of careful curation , sometimes with luck on my side , I managed to put together a collection that has many rare and hard to find items , a few things totally exclusive to a genuine fans collection.

I believe the Elton John Plays Siran limited edition private press CD where just 50 copies were authorised by Elton to be made and gifted by him to the original 50 owners is one such thing in my collection that has made it totally unique within the general fan base.

With my knowledge of the large contact base of die hard fans across the globe I don't know any other fan that has managed to obtain a copy of this CD for their own private collection.

This is no surprise. In all my years of collecting I had never seen it come on to the market once since it was made in 1992 until it popped up unexpectedly on eBay.

When it did turn up as a remnant from an estate sale via an eBay auction I just had to have it and that I did in fierce bidding competition. My final bid to ensure I got it was way above the final hammer price I got it for. It was soon to be my 50th birthday and I had just had one of the most successful years in my career so it was a present to myself.

Such was it's rarity and the fact that it was close by just over an hour's drive away I went and picked it up personally before I paid the cash over, I wanted it in my hands to make sure it was totally ligitimate, and it was . I also learnt a story.

It was on the verge of being sent off amongst a batch of CD's to a charity shop but when browsing through the CD's the house clearance manager decided " The Siran" might be worth investigating further, that they did and it ended up on eBay and ended up in my collection by that twist of fate

So here it is , No 9 of 50 back on the open market and again since my initial purchase I have never seen another come on to the market making this the most hardest to find of Elton releases.

There is no negotiation on the price on this CD, it is not a forced sale and I have taken professional valuation advice about it's starting price which is the reserve price suggested should I transfer it's sale in the future to a top level auction house such as Christie's and to be totally honest if I had of invested the money I paid for it I am selling at break even on what I have lost in interest on my savings.

Up for auction is an incredible piece of rock and football crossover history: an official Watford F.C. vs. Rotherham United matchday programme from Saturday, August 18th, 2001, hand-signed on the day by Club Chairman and music icon, Sir Elton John.
