This came up on my memories.
It still holds true
I originally wrote this 2 year ago after someone told me to lower my prices. When I told her that I didn't use cheap yarns, she told me to lower my standards...

I just did some calculations..
A shawl can take me up to 15 hours to make ..The national minimum wage is £10.42.
Plus the cost of the yarn at £30.00
If I wanted to pay myself the minimum wage..it would make the shawl £186.00.
Since then the minimum wage has increased
Unfortunately people don't want to pay that sort of price ...
Crocheted items are bought from the likes of Primark, Matalan and such like for peanuts ...these items are made in sweat shops with little or no regards for the people working in them.
Or they are machine knitted to look like crochet ...
NO MACHINE CAN REPLICATE CROCHET ...

So please be kind when I tell you how much my hand crafted items are .

TO POINT OUT....I DON'T CHARGE THOSE PRICES ...I WAS CURIOUS TO KNOW WHAT IT WOULD BE IF I CALCULATED IT ON THE CURRENT MINIMUM WAGE...
