I have always been a firm believer in taking care of the environment. It used to always sadden me if I went to a festival or a night out and I would see litter including cigarette ends on the floor left for some unsuspecting animal to come and chew. I have heard of situations where fields of crops have been set alight throught the negligent actions of a someone flicking a lit cigarette end into a field, without any forethought for the consequences, resulting in the crops catching fire and the farmer losing his crop. With this in mind, I thought about how I could help the environment. I worked with a manufacturer to devise a suitable pocket ashtray that would eradicate the necessity to drop cigarette ends on the floor, but would be small enough to fit in a pocket or handbag and versatile to hold with one hand when smoking with the other. That, alongside being fireretardant so it would allow the user to extinguish the cigarette end safely inside the pocket ashtray. I feel that the Poche Tray would really encourage people to take responsibility for the environment and aid them to take pride in their own communities; but hopefully it will help to increase peoples awareness of their own impact on our world. Together we can eradicate litter and the unsightly mess of cigarette ends.

Chelmsford City Council has joined forces with other local authorities across Essex for the 2022 Love Essex anti-littering campaign. This year there’s a particular focus on stopping motorists from throwing litter from their vehicles.
