Today marks the World Health Organization's World hearing Day with their focus being "From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children."

In a recent article from the BBC News, it was fantastic to see such a mainstream children's TV show, Peppa Pig 🐷, raising the issue of hearing loss with the audiologist being played by Gladiator 'Fury' Jodie Ounsley, who was one of the youngest people in the UK to be fitted with a cochlear implant at just 14 months old!

George's hearing loss is most likely to be congenital, as opposed to being noise induced, but it does raise an interesting point about how to treat people with pre-existing hearing loss if they are working in noisy areas.

This is something we discuss in some detail on our Industrial Screening Audiometry course, although in essence, the rule is that you must be more vigilant and take more care if employees have hearing loss or wear hearing aids. More screening, more detailed risk assessment, more care over hearing protection choice and more training are all part of the mix.
