A lot of the posts I make of garments being made here in the Material Moves studio are those of my learners, so I thought it about time to show you some of the things I make for myself.
I'm slow these days, my hands have never fully recovered, so it can often take me months to complete a garment, fitting my own sewing in between classes, shop, and admin. I also like to demonstrate techniques with things I'm making.
Here's the Francesca shirt by Style Arc, which Ive sewn before, this time making it in a silk I found years ago, probably at the Knitting and Stitching show. I am really pleased to have finally decided on what to do with it, I think it's going to be fab, I've got a special event coming up to wear it, but it may end up as a favourite blouse to wear every day, hopefully improving my dopermine levels with the lush colours.
I've made a few adaptions to the pattern, deciding to make it edge to edge with self covered buttons and rouleaux loops, as the silk is probably too delicate for buttonholes. I'm using French seams, darts, a gathered collar, and self covered buttons with rouleaux loops.
