Hello friends. Remember this toaster? Probably not looking like this. This was the toaster that made all your bagels at York Place 7 years ago, and we’ve had it in our kitchen ever since. It sadly started to show signs it was struggling yesterday, and I’m not sure me cleaning out the crumbs really helped and Robert really wants to save it (hence it currently looking like this)- there’s a tool bag on the kitchen floor too 🥹 but it’s time to let it go. It’s had no buttons for years and now as soon as you push one side down the other pops up…and it seems to just not really want to toast anymore 😔

Anyway. We had a final bagel in this beast of a cheap ‘it won’t last long’ toaster, as a salute to its many years of service, on your behalf 😉

RIP lil toaster, you’ve done us proud ♥️

Happy New Year!

So here’s where we’re at in January 2024.

Rob is developing Yay Coffee Tech travelling all over the region to keep your Coffee equipment running. Approved engineer for a bunch of manufacturers, and I’m so proud of him for going for it. He’s an amazing example to our boys, and he’s so happy solving problems and getting to support people in hospitality, an industry we hold very close to our hearts, every day.

I’m still potting, with January for me starting in quite an unexpected way with a House & Garden feature. See below for more info! I don’t know if you’re on insta, but if you are, following www.instagram.com/potterandclayuk and www.instagram.com/yaycoffeetech would be an amazing way to kick off the year supporting two small businesses that still support/work together in a whole bunch of ways. Still family 🥰

Next week, there’s a Christmas fair at the Old Parcels Office Artspace

Lottie will be there with mugs (& hopefully some Christmas decorations 🤞), along with a bunch of wonderful local makers & artists. It would be great to see you 😊

PS it sounds cheesy but I absolutely mean it when I say there’s never any pressure to buy from me. It’s just lovely to see familiar faces and get chance to chat a little, particularly because we’re not around with brews these days!

Hullo! Me again 😂 Do we know anyone local who does good quality screen print (with a low MOQ) for clothing? Looking for a handful of T-shirts/jumpers within the next fortnight if it’s at all possible. Very, very aware it’s a tight turnaround!

We got the news we’ve been shortlisted for ‘business transformation of the year’ in the Business Excellence Awards today.

I entered us. I’ve never done that before. Why this time? Because I am SO freaking proud of Robert and the sheer amount of determination, graft and resilience he has. He’s been the one that has set the recipe for basically every espresso served at Yay, whether he brewed it or not- the one there fixing things when they broke, putting in hours and hours on the machine- faithfully pouring those coffees to a very high standard, serving our lil Scarborough community come rain or shine (though admittedly not on the street in the pouring rain 😉) He may not be much of a talker, but he’s the one without whom Yay simply wouldn’t be a thing. He’s a doer. And this year, he’s completely retrained, and become a coffee equipment engineer- serving the hospitality industry that we love so much, and doing a good job, because that’s what he does. I’m still here of course in the background, but this is him doing his thing, and you know, the other day I let go of my ‘we don’t enter ourselves for things’ mentality.

I want to celebrate him, and 8 years of Yay, because we recently hit our trading anniversary, and we were too busy doing a bunch of things to notice 😂 It has absolutely not all been plain sailing, in fact the voyage has often been pretty rough, but we’re still here, still about doing things excellently, because if you’re not going to try to do it well, then what’s the point. It just looks a bit different now.

Whether or not we win is irrelevant really- obviously I would love for us to, but I’m raising my glass to Roberto and this lil business whatever happens. And to you guys. Because without you there is no way we’d still be here, with an opportunity to do what we’re doing.

Thank you for buying those brews. Thank you for coming through both our shop doors, for queuing on the Esplanade, for booking us for events, for passing work on. For your encouragement. Your feedback. And to the team we’ve had over the years. You are champions. You’ve helped make Yay what it is now.

You really are the best.

I heard someone say lately that ‘just because a change makes you sad, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make it’. This little truck, which has served us, and quite a large proportion of the people in Scarborough (over lockdown) very well indeed, and which we built ourselves for that very purpose, went off to a new, wonderful home today. It’s a change we needed to make, as is increasingly busy and no one can do everything, but driving behind it for the last time made me feel weird. We don’t have a Bedford any more!
