This week we feature in a Stornoway Gazette newspaper article alongside local island businesses based here in Berneray and Leverburgh - Berneray Shop and Bistro, Harris community co-op & Isle of Harris Brewery.

Since the end of March, the Sound of Harris route has been plagued with continuous cancellations, ferry service withdrawals and repeated dry docking across the vital summer months. By the end of September we will have had no direct ferry service between Berneray and Leverburgh for the last 5 weeks alone and it has had a severe impact on day to day business all season.

Small businesses are the heart of communities and we work so hard to keep going without outside factors like this making everything so much harder.

✨️ Closing for short break ✨️

As my main summer season comes to an end, I will be taking a short break from both my gift shop here on Berneray and also from my online shop. I am off in search of some Greek beaches and sunshine 🐚

My last day open on Berneray will be Wednesday 23rd September (reopening around 21st October).

Online orders will be accepted up to Thursday 24th and posted before I travel ☺️

From Monday there will be NO direct Sound of Harris sailings between Berneray and Leverburgh for at least 3 weeks 😡...

Another blow to our already difficult season this year due to the continuing ferry disruption. The final 3 out of 5 weeks for our summer season will now have less footfall and traffic through the island and local businesses than ever before - instead all traffic will be diverted via Lochmaddy to Tarbert.

These coming weeks are still part of our peak summer season when visitor numbers should be high. A disappointing end to the season.
