The Rise of a Pioneer
Born Johnny Allen Hendrix in 1942 (later renamed James Marshall Hendrix), Jimi’s journey began in Seattle. By the early ’60s, he was playing as a sideman for legends like Little Richard and Ike & Tina Turner, but it wasn’t until he moved to London in 1966 that his star truly ignited.
With the formation of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, alongside Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, the world was introduced to an electrifying fusion of blues, rock, funk, and psychedelia — all delivered with a wild, raw energy that audiences had never seen before.
Sound Like No Other
From “Purple Haze” to “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)”, Hendrix’s guitar work wasn’t just technical — it was emotional. He made his Stratocaster weep, scream, and soar using feedback, distortion, and a pioneering use of effects like the wah-wah and Uni-Vibe.
