What the actual.....?
I thought, how does a piano get damaged like this? Then I noticed the hinge pin was protruding & instead of straightening it & pushing it back in or just removing the protruding part with a hacksaw, someone has chiselled a channel into the wood to allow the fall (aka the keyboard lid) to reseat.
I'm not sure whether to be horrified by their butchery or impressed with their creativity

I regularly tuned & regulated the piano on the left for a centenarian who passed recently. A 1963 Chappell with a warm tone & even touch. I've never seen a Chappell this old in such a fine condition. Her daughter asked me to help her sell it but I struggled to find anyone.

A friendly delivery firm called me yesterday to let me know it had to go by today, best case scenario - a charity shop, worst - a skip.

I contacted a shop, a technician friend & a customer who'd shown an interest but to no avail.

Today I visited the banger you see on the right. Loose pins, spongy pinblock, dried out action, seized set offs. Some clown had tried to remedy a missing damper spring with a drawing pin & an elastic band! Inventive I suppose.

I told her about the Challen, called the delivery firm & they agreed to bring it & scrap her trainwreck for £100.
She loves her new piano & has been playing it all day!

This rarely happens for me, I need more days like this
