Woodland Inspiration • The Brumby Peacock

This morning I was inspired by the historic, sun-dappled trails of Brumby Woods—a rare remnant of ancient woodland—this signature wreath also honors the storied Peacock family of nearby Bottesford Manor. While the Peacock family did not manage the woods themselves, they were the devoted "keepers of the local stories," serving as renowned Victorian naturalists and folklorists who chronicled the "soul" of the North Lincolnshire landscape. Their work preserved the local flora and ancient legends—including the whispers of the mischievous fairies once said to haunt the shadowy edges of Brumby Common—that give our region its unique character.
The more I learn about Brumby Wood and its deep connections to this folklore and intellectual legacy, the more I realize how intertwined our craft at Beckwood Wreaths is with this ancient soil. It’s fascinating to think that these very woods have witnessed centuries of changing terrain, growing from rough heath and shifting sands into a rich, sheltering canopy where those old woodland spirits were said to linger. I spent the early hours tracing the historic trails through Brumby Woods, letting the sun-dappled canopy guide the direction of today's project. There is a distinct vibrancy to the ancient broadleaf understory here—a complex interplay of bright highlights, deep shade, and textured layers that I wanted to capture directly in the workshop.
Back at the workbench, I started with the glossy broadleaf laurel and rich ivy to establish that dense, grounded structural foundation. Once the base was locked in, I wove in the variegated holly and euonymus, letting those creamy-yellow edges punch natural light right through the greenery. The Laughton Weaver

Spent the afternoon researching the history behind the materials for the new Laughton Weaver edition. The more I learn about the "websters"—the traditional weavers who once shaped the identity of our local rural community—the more I realize how intertwined our craft at Beckwood Wreaths is with this landscape.
It’s fascinating to think that these same woods were once a wild expanse of shifting desert dunes. The resilience required to live and work here centuries ago, transforming raw flax and h**p into durable textiles, is exactly the spirit I wanted to capture in this design. When I look at the raw, unrefined hessian and fine linen strings in our new focal bow, I’m reminded of the hard-loomed canvas those tradespeople produced right here in Lincolnshire.
I’ve spent the day perfecting the placement of the sun-bleached grass plumes and the dried teasels—which were once the essential tools used to raise the nap on woven fabrics. It feels like we are literally weaving the history of the forest floor into every piece, from the architectural pine cones that represent our area's post-WWI afforestation to the wild, natural textures gathered from our woodland ponds.

The Build Diary:
The Laughton Wreath

I spent the morning in the local woodlands, and today it wasn’t just about the walk; it was about hunting for the inspiration of my next project. I kept returning to the Native Fir. There is a specific architecture to these branches that I’ve been trying to replicate—a deep, rich tone combined with the thick, structured needles that give the forest its density.
Back in the workshop, I treated these Fir branches as the essential foundation of the Laughton Wreath. I’ve learned that without this solid start, the whole piece loses its shape. It felt rewarding to lay these out first, creating that strong, circular frame that mirrors exactly what I saw under the tree canopy this morning.
