PAWS FOR THOUGHT - It is that time of year again and I would like to explain our policy of allowing and not allowing dogs into the Garden Centre during our busy Christmas season. It is nothing personal, we all adore animals (we all have dogs and other pets) here at Boonwood and honestly prefer them to some customers! As a retailer we have healthy and safety regulations to adhere to and a duty of care to all our staff and customers.

During the Christmas period, our 2 shop houses are transformed into a winter wonderland, this narrows pathways and encloses the 2 areas. We speak from experience when we say although your dog is very well trained and never jumps up or bites, this could change in an unfamiliar crowded enclosed environment with lights, noise and strangers causing your dog to act out of character, which is not their fault. Dog leads in an enclosed area can be a trip hazard especially for children and the elderly. We cannot be responsible for children running up and wanting to pet your little gorgeous dog. Then we have other issues to consider, lots food items on sale, customers with allergies, dog fouling, anxiety for people who are frightened of dogs, dogs not liking other dogs… there are so many other factors we have to take into consideration.

Therefore with all this in mind, our policy is throughout the months of February - August, yes of course we welcome your dog on a lead. During our busy Christmas period, the months of September - January, we can only allow your dog if he/she is small enough for you to carry them while in the garden centre.

I hope you can understand our decision, we are not discriminating or upsetting anyone, just sticking to the rules and trying to keep everyone safe.

🐾🐕 Of course, it goes without saying, all service dogs are not affected by this
