Last week, I received this card from a client as we came to the end of our work together 🤍
The words inside will remain private because they belong to them and to the confidential relationship we shared.
But as I hold this card and read it (for the 3rd time ☺️), I noticed that sometimes receiving kindness can feel just as difficult as giving it.
This little card brought up emotions of….
Gratitude and Joy
But also a little Discomfort due to that sneaky little voice, “Do I really deserve these kind words”
Honestly, I always feel incredibly proud of my clients.
💫Proud that they stay, even if therapy becomes challenging.
💫Proud that they trust themselves to keep showing up.
And watching someone begin to believe in themselves is one of the greatest privileges of my work.
But also, and perhaps for the first time in 2 years, I allowed myself to feel proud of me too (That sentence would once have felt impossible to write ☺️).
💫I am proud of the five years of study, the tears, the self-doubt, the assignments, the placements, and all the personal growth that happened alongside the professional training.
💫But I am also proud that I can sit with another human being in some of their darkest moments without trying to rescue them, fix them or change them… simply offering a safe, accepting space where they can discover their own answers.
So receiving this card reminded me that sometimes we need to stop brushing aside appreciation and simply let it land.
Not because we need praise, but because it’s okay to acknowledge the difference we have made.
So this week, alongside celebrating this client’s journey, I am also quietly celebrating my own too 🦋
Is there anything you can feel proud of yourself for……No matter how big or how small ?
