Cottontail Crafts (previously 'The Sewing Centre') is a family owned business that was founded 65 years ago in the Yorkshire Dales market town of Settle. Sue Amphlett, daughter of the founders, is the current owner of the business (along with husband, Steve). Sue is an expert crafter and qualified dressmaker. She used to be a regular demonstrator on Create & Craft TV and Hochanda. A UK ambassador

for Prym ( an internationally leading supplier of sewing and needlecraft products and all kinds of trendy accessories) on whose behalf she gives product demonstrations at shows, exhibitions and stores around the country.

Not the best of days yesterday! Steve fell & is in hospital with a broken pelvis. He's coming home today .
My opening times are going to be erratic. If I'm open I'm open if not I will have my nurses uniform on looking after him.

Thank you for understanding- Steve comes first.

This was an article in the Craven Herald when the shop celebrated 50 years in business.

I don't know why it was published in 2007 as the 50th was 2006!!

Sadly we lost Mum in December of that year (2007). Mum was the linchpin of the business in the early days. How she managed to run a shop & bring up 5 children plus be on lots of committees is beyond me - an amazing woman.

I've just started on this gorgeous cardigan.
New yarn- it's luxury.

New stock of King Cole patterns & yarn due this week.........I'm drooling over all of it!

For those of you wondering where the original shop was, here is a photo of it.

You walked in through the door & turned right through another door. The shop went front to back.

As a family we lived upstairs. It was a big cold house with high ceilings. My bedroom was the square one at the top.

Originally part of Settle girls high school.

Early 1980's we took a couple of walls down opening up the shop more. The window to the left of the door was now part of the shop & when you went through the front door you were immediately in the shop.
