Clematis ‘Princess Kate’ is a stunner at this time of year, with its unusual bell shaped flowers.
Being in the texensis group of Clematis, it’s perfect for a pot as it doesn’t get too big ( approx 3m, or 10ft) but will get there quickly every year. Cut them right down to about 15cm in late winter, no need for any fancy pruning.

Yesterday I picked up some gorgeous Cyclamen, all grown very locally near Wimborne.
Inside, they will flower for nearly all winter in a cool room, for best results water from underneath and dead head regularly.
Outdoors, they are not fully hardy so probably won’t last all winter, but place them in a container in a sheltered spot, where they don’t get too wet and they will last for a long time.
Whether you go for the bright red for a pop of colour, or the stylish white is up to you. Pink ones are a good compromise, but I think my favourite are the Victoria, which are white with a pink edge to the petals.

Well, we finally got a really long good downpour this morning which we have been waiting a long time for ☔️
Yesterday I went on a plant shopping trip and came back with some lovely colourful plants including Chrysanthemum, Cyclamen, Anenome, Nandina, some ornamental grasses and a lovely big Clerodendrum trichotum which you don’t see very often with masses of pink/purple flowers that have blue berry like centres

To cheer myself up yesterday with having to go to the dentist, I decided to cheer myself up by starting to stock up again with some plants, after selling off all my stock during the summer heatwaves
Autumn is the best time to put plants in, it allows them to grow some roots and settle in before the winter cold, which means in the Spring they have a head start and are much more resistant to any droughts we may have.

Sometimes people aren’t quite sure what to do with the big rusty crowns, so here is Sox demonstrating their correct usage as a cat sunning spot.
Alternative uses could include placing them on top of a large pot, in a border amongst other plants, on top of a pillar or wall, a focal point on their own in the centre of a stone circle, or anything else you can think of 🙂
