Juno Books

Juno Books Your friendly local intersectional feminist bookshop. Hello! Why Choose Us?

We are Rosie and Sarah, the co-founders of Juno Books, an independent feminist and q***r bookshop, based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, opening mid 2022. Juno Books was born of our mutual love of literature, our passion for inclusive and intersectional feminism, and our desire to support a greater representation of women and marginalised voices in the world of books. We want to challenge and break

down stereotypes surrounding these groups in the literary space by stocking a carefully curated selection of literature and genres written predominantly by, for, or about women and other marginalised folk. We are particularly keen to raise up lesser known writers by bringing you the best that local and independent presses have to offer, and carry this work alongside more established writers, with whom we are all familiar. Our aim for Juno Books is to create a community of feminist booklovers and to offer a safe and welcoming place for our readers to discover their new favourite book. And if there is anything the past few years have taught us, it’s that we can’t underestimate the power of strong communities in helping us to explore identities, get curious about what’s important to us and to share these experiences with others. So passionate are we about bringing you the very best in contemporary literature that we only sell books that we, and trusted readers, have read and would recommend ourselves, so if you’ve lost your reading mojo, feel free to email us with your favourite genres and reads and we will happily recommend something for you to get you on your way again! Amazon (boo) might get your book to you (slightly) faster and cheaper than we will, but by supporting Juno Books, you support not only us, our families and our local communities, but also amplify the voices of lesser known writers and presses.

We’ve got our last two Juno Reads book clubs ready and what a pair!

16/17 SEPTEMBER - TAIWAN TRAVELOGUE

Winner of the 2026 International Booker Prize and published by Sheffield’s own And Other Stories, Taiwan Travelogue is described as ‘a bittersweet story of love between two women, nested in an artful exploration of language, history and power’. Set in the 1930s, it is ‘disguised as a translation of a text by a Japanese writer’ and explores questions about colonialism and how power dynamics affect our relationships.

18/19 NOVEMBER - EXCELLENT WOMEN

In November we’ll read Excellent Women, a funny and touching mid-century novel which follows the story of Mildred Lathbury, ‘one of those excellent women who are often taken for granted’. Barbara Pym’s classic comedy of manners follows what happens when glamorous neighbours move in next door…

Tickets and more information are available via our website or the link in bio. See you soon!

We had the best night learning about the rise and fall of Shere Hite, whose groundbreaking Hite Report sold a staggering 50 million copies! Rosa delved deep into the book that told the truths - and exposed the myths - of vaginal or**sm, plus she shared the highlights of Shere’s 300-box, carefully-curated archive, which shed light on a complex but fascinating feminist researcher, a former Pl***oy model turned bestselling author and, later, a vehement anti-porn campaigner. We’ve got a tiny handful of signed books left in the shop, grab them to learn more about this thorny, glamorous and, ultimately, forgotten pioneer.

Thanks to Rosa and Clare for a brilliant evening!

last night we welcomed to the shop to talk about his brilliant book Florenzer, a juicy romp through q***r life in 15th century Florence, published by .

Phil chatted to our very own about depicting real-life characters such as a young Leonardo Da Vinci, cruising in Renaissance Italy, his research process, and the fascinating tidbits he found along the way... for example, did you know the word 'nepotism' has roots in the Latin term for 'nephew' because 15th century popes handed the best jobs to their nephews? us neither!

we've got just two signed copies left in the shop, be quick if you wanna snap them up!

We had the most lovely time with last night exploring his incredible new book ‘How Q***r Bookshops Changed The World’ with our own

A.J. spoke so beautifully about his book, which is filled with the real, touching, moving, brave and astonishing stories of q***r bookshops and booksellers through history and from across the world, describing the trials of q***r bookshops in the past but also the necessity of keeping q***r bookshops on our high streets today. Thanks so much to A.J and Alim for a wonderful evening.

We’ve got a few signed copies left in store so do pop in and pick up yours! And while you’re here, we have a little box on the till where you can drop in a wee note about what we mean to you - it’d be lovely to read your thoughts ❤️

Another fabulous event this week, was Flamboyance by Jack Parlett. Discussing the political power of flamboyance and how this loaded term transformed from a descriptor of gothic architecture to a derided and misunderstood proxy for camp which.... It is not. Flamboyance is multifaceted. From divas and the g**s who love them to flamenco, flamingos and flowers, flamboyance is transformational, joyous and powerful. Signed copies in store now.
