Hardy Violins

Ever fancied making your own fiddle? Join me for relaxed, hands-on classes where you’ll learn to make your very own violin in a friendly workshop setting.

Whether you’re a woodworking beginner or have a half-made instrument already that you’d like to finish, this course will guide you through the process step by step.

Classes are small (maximum 5 people). You’ll work at your own pace, with guidance tailored to your experience and interests.

Thursday afternoons 14:00–17:30 and evenings 18:30–21:00 , £35 per session. Our next term starts 15th September from my workshop in Portland Works, S2 4SJ.

Earlier this year I spent a great few days with , learning about his set up process. We did a set up on this violin, which I was making when at the ‘s workshop party last year.

I varnished it using varnish I made with and Mathias Herr.

A few days ago helped me take some photographs of it using his equipment.

One of my favourite things about being a violin maker/repairer is the people in the industry. I’m surrounded by people who are happy to share their skills - it creates a great sense of community which I think is really important when you work alone all day.
