Come with us to the National Literacy Trust conference with Libraries for Primaries! 📚

Brilliant to hear talk about books being windows and mirrors to young readers and the power of representation across all genres, sit in seminars focused on minoritised voices in children's literature and what a writer's job really needs to be, and hear from the gatekeepers helping show young people the magic of books within our schools.

There is so much to takeaway into the shop, but also into my own book choices, particularly with Lowri.

The stories we choose to tell should be inclusive without having to be labelled that way. Forever banging the drum that books and bookshelves should represent the people reading/buying them ✨️

👻🔪 Ghost Month - Simon Wroe 👻🔪

Full of wit, heart and charm, Ghost Month asks a timeless question: do we only value life when we are reminded that it will end?

✨🎉 3rd Birthday Competition Winner! ✨🎉

We were overjoyed to receive lots of fantastic entries into our competition to design us a birthday card for our 3rd Bookshop Birthday last Saturday!

It was even more lovely to see everyone who popped buy for cake, fizz and to buy a book.

It was very difficult to choose between the entries in the post above (with some excellent grown up entries as well!) but in the end we have gone for Meredith's 'The Tale of Hillsborough Bookshop' card which includes a little story inside - we loved the book cover design and the creativity shown!

We'll be contacting Meredith to arrange collection of her £10 book voucher and thank you again to everyone who made us a birthday card!

🎂 THREE 🎂

Today has been full to bursting with so much joy. Thank you to everyone who popped in for cake, fizzy, or to have a browse and say happy birthday. It was a very happy birthday indeed, and especially lovely for me to see some regular faces and be back nattering with you all! The cards we received were all amazing, and the winner of our competition will be announced when we are back down to earth on Wednesday.

Here are just a few snippets of the fun. The contrast of the first photo to the one taken on our 1st birthday is mega. What a wonderful three years it has been ✨️

This past year has seen so much change, including the addition of bookseller extraordinaire Dave (and apprentice Lowri) and the shop has kept evolving as our team has grown. Here's to the magic of year 4 and all it has in store for us 📚❤️

🎈Twas the night before our birthday party...🎈

I've been taking a trip down memory lane this evening as I prepare for my first 'baby' to turn 3 this weekend. My tiny pipe dream pop-up shop has evolved into a growing community of booklovers 📚

I think I've scratched a lot of the initial prep and bookshop build from my mind (health and safety was the least of my concerns it seems 🤦‍♀️) but looking back at photos of what the shop looked like before reminds me just how much effort has gone in over these years. I built every shelf (okay, Dan helped with a couple), painted every wall, fitted the flooring, made the counter... you get the gist. The small business mindset begins as soon as you have the idea, and from that moment you add 50 new roles to your CV and just learn how to do it all. I never take for granted how it feels to still be here, rolling the blinds up and opening the door 3 years on, especially in the current economic climate.

So much has changed in those 3 years, yet my love for what we do and my drive to keep putting brilliant books into the hands of the people in my local community has never strayed.

As I begin the process of switching my brain back into turbo mode after my maternity leave (I think it may require a lot of oil 😅) I am so excited to get back to the bread and butter of bookselling, but also put some really exciting plans in place for the next few years and what could be ✨️

If you're around tomorrow, I'd love to see you to thank you for buying books and sharing the joy of reading with us (and there is also cake and fizz on offer if seeing my face isn't tempting enough!) 🎂
