Online Studio Hello! Tim & Izzy

We are the creators of IzzoSew Studio - a space created for the sustainably minded home sewist. We met in 2006 at university through shared circles of creativity and design; painting, baking brownies and dancing the night away to drum and bass. Fast forward through 15 years of architectural endeavours and we’ve now chosen to express our creativity in a new way. We’ve designed this business to resp

ond to the question of ‘What can I do to reduce the impact of fast fashion in the world?’ We don’t need to tell you all about the environmental, economic and social impact that fast fashion can create, we trust you already know about that. But we have some great solutions to offer you, with the aim of empowering you to make some wonderful choices for your clothing. We’ll start small but we have a BIG vision and we’d love you to join us in this journey!

A holiday wardrobe, made entirely by me ✂️☀️🇫🇷

Looking back through my photos from our family holiday in France, I realised something rather lovely… every outfit I photographed was designed and made from scratch by me.

Not from a commercial pattern, but using my own bespoke body block, created from my individual measurements.

That’s the thing I love about learning to work with your own body block. Once you understand how to use it, it becomes the starting point for so many possibilities.

A dress you’ve pictured in your head.
The perfect pair of trousers.
A top designed exactly the way you want it.

Pieces that work together and, most importantly, are designed around your body.
These are some of the pieces that made it into my suitcase this summer. ☀️

And if you’d love to start designing and creating clothes from your own measurements, that’s exactly what we can help you learn to do at IzzoSew.

Inside our Online Studio, you can learn how to create your own bespoke body block and use it as the foundation for designing a wardrobe that feels completely, uniquely yours.

Because one of the best things about sewing your own clothes is being able to say: “I designed that.” 🧵✨

Clearly, twinning is winning!

Co-ords have been such a huge trend this summer and I’m loving seeing all the different ways people are making them their own. From loose shirts and trousers in big, bold prints to strappy tops with matching skirts; there are so many ways to interpret the look..

Personally, I love a simple fabrics brought to life in the details – think ric-rac trims, contrast piping or colourful notions. But I’m equally here for a fabulous statement fabric paired with a simple pattern shape, creating something relaxed, wearable and effortlessly stylish. ✂️

And the best bit about making your own? You get to choose exactly what your co-ord looks like; the shape, the fabric, the fit and all those little finishing touches.

If you love a co-ord as much as I do, they’re the focus for our Monthly Design Theme inside the IzzoSew Online Studio this September. 🧵

We’ll be exploring how to design and create your own co-ords, giving you the skills and inspiration to put your own spin on the trend.

Did you know IzzoSew offers a Body Block Digitisation Service? ✂️💻

If you’ve spent time carefully drafting and perfecting your body blocks by hand, digitising them is a brilliant way to preserve all that hard work and make them even easier to use.

We’ll transform your paper body blocks into clean, accurate digital files, carefully preserving the original measurements, proportions and shape of your pattern.

Once digitised, your blocks are ready to:
✨ Edit and develop digitally
✨ Print again whenever you need them
✨ Use as the starting point for new patterns and designs
✨ Store safely for the long term – no more worrying about damaged or lost paper blocks!

It’s the perfect bridge between traditional pattern drafting and digital pattern making, giving you a professional master copy of a block that’s completely unique to your body.

Already have a hand-drafted body block you’d love to take digital? Get in touch to find out more about our digitisation service. 🧵

You can find all the information you need on our website under Body Block Digitisation here: https://www.izzosewstudio.com/shop/p/body-block-digitisation

For a start, you can make clothes to fit your body, rather than trying to make your body fit standard sizing. You can adjust the shape, proportions and little details until something feels right for you.

Then there’s the creative freedom. The fabric you love, in the colour you actually want, with the neckline, sleeves and length you prefer. No more finding the almost-perfect dress and thinking, “If only it had sleeves…”

And your wardrobe starts to feel much more like you. You’re not limited by what happens to be fashionable or available in the shops that season.

But some of the biggest benefits happen away from the wardrobe.

Sewing is a skill you can keep building. Every project teaches you something new, every little breakthrough builds confidence, and there’s a huge amount of satisfaction in someone complimenting what you’re wearing and being able to say, “Thanks, I made it!”

It’s also time to switch off, focus on something with your hands and get completely absorbed in creating.

And there’s the sustainability side too. When you’ve chosen the fabric, perfected the fit and put your own time and skill into making something, you naturally become more considered about what earns a place in your wardrobe. It becomes less about buying more and more about creating pieces you genuinely love, value and want to wear for years.

Your body doesn’t have to fit the clothes. You can make the clothes fit your body.

And that might just be my favourite thing about making your own wardrobe. ✂️

If that sounds lovely, but you’re thinking “I wouldn’t have a clue where to start”, that’s exactly what our Online Studio is there for.

Our Sewing Foundation Course is designed for absolute beginners, taking you through the basics step by step. And once you’re ready to go further, there’s a growing library of tutorials, techniques and projects to help you keep building your skills.

What exactly is a Social Sewing Day? 🧵✨

Think dedicated sewing time, lovely company, plenty of tea and cake… and absolutely no pressure.

Our Social Sewing Days are all about giving yourself a whole day to switch off from everyday life, get stuck into a project and enjoy being around people who love sewing just as much as you do.

🧵 Bring whatever you’re working on
A garment, a bag, alterations, mending or something completely different. This is your time to make progress without the usual interruptions.

💬 Sew alongside a supportive community
Chat, swap ideas, ask for a second opinion when you hit a snag and celebrate those little sewing wins together. There’s always someone nearby who gets it.

✨ Find fresh inspiration
One of the loveliest parts of sewing together is seeing what everyone else is creating in our Sheffield studio – you’re almost guaranteed to go home with a few new ideas!

☕ Keep fuelled while you sew
There’s plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day, followed by a delicious afternoon tea with homemade cakes and a glass of Prosecco.

🧘‍♀️ Finish with Relax, Stretch & Breathe
After a day at your sewing machine, stretch everything out with our gentle, beginner-friendly Pilates session, designed to leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Come on your own or bring a friend. Bring your project, settle in and enjoy a whole day dedicated to creativity, conversation and doing something just for you.

That’s a Social Sewing Day. And we think they’re pretty special. 💛

We have two Social Sewing Days coming up soon:

🧵 Saturday 5th September
🧵 Saturday 7th November

Come along with your latest project, enjoy a day of sewing alongside like-minded people and finish the day with Sandie’s wonderfully relaxing session.

✨ Meet Sophie ✨ If you've been to one of our retreats or Sewing Days, chances are you've already met the wonderful Sophie.

Sophie () has been part of the IzzoSew journey right from the beginning, joining me for our very first retreat back in March 2023 and helping to launch our Sewing Days just a few months later. I genuinely couldn't imagine running them without her.

We've actually been friends for over 10 years (we met through church) and watching her share her knowledge with our community is such a joy.

Sophie studied Fashion Design at university and is one of those wonderfully creative people who seems to turn her hand to just about every craft! Alongside teaching Design & Technology and Food Technology part-time in a secondary school, she also runs her own children's clothing brand, Charlie & Bug (), selling at markets and through Etsy.

One of the reasons we work so well together is that our strengths complement each other perfectly. I naturally gravitate towards garment fitting and helping you achieve the best fit for your body, while Sophie has an incredible eye for sewing techniques, clever construction methods and creative problem-solving. Together, it means there's always someone on hand to help, whatever you're working on.

I'm incredibly grateful to have Sophie as part of the IzzoSew team. She's knowledgeable, endlessly patient, wonderfully encouraging and quite simply a brilliant person to sew alongside.

I know so many of you have benefited from her help over the last few years, so I thought it was about time she got the introduction (and appreciation!) she deserves. 💛

If you’re making a neckline, collar or sleeve, smooth curves can be one of the trickiest parts of sewing. But with the right techniques, they don't have to be.

Here, we show you the first of three simple methods to sew, trim and turn out a curved seam. The full video (found on our Online Studio) will show you two more methods, each suited to a slightly different situation. Once you know when to use each one, you'll have a practical toolkit you can come back to again and again.

A little extra knowledge can make all the difference, helping you tackle curves with confidence, whatever project you're working on.

Creative hobbies remind us that progress doesn’t have to be perfect to be rewarding. You don’t have to be “good” at something to enjoy it – you simply have to enjoy the process.

And the best part? Creative hobbies aren’t just satisfying, they’re good for you too.
✨ Lower stress
✨ Improved mood
✨ Increased confidence
✨ Better focus
✨ A greater sense of purpose

And what’s better than sharing that experience with like-minded people?

Swapping ideas and techniques.
Celebrating finished projects.
Helping someone when they’re stuck.
Laughing over mistakes.
Finding people who simply get it.

Sometimes you arrive for the sewing…
…and leave with new friends.

That’s the real magic of a creative community. 💛

Find your creative community at an IzzoSew Social Sewing Day.

✨✨Meet Sandie✨✨, our wonderful Pilates instructor… and fellow sewist!

Sandie joined us at our last Social Sewing Day with two hats on. During the day, she got stuck into her own sewing project and created this gorgeous dress, before leading us through her beautiful Relax, Stretch & Breathe session to finish the day.

After hours spent sewing, chatting and creating, it’s the perfect way to slow down, stretch out and completely unwind.

Her sessions are relaxed, beginner-friendly and always leave everyone looking wonderfully refreshed and calm.

Sandie is such a brilliant teacher and we love having her as part of our Social Sewing Days. 🧘‍♀️🧵✨
