Hartley Electric Music

Hartley Electric Music We used to help you get the sound you wanted from your amp and then keep your gear running in top working order

Our passion was building or modifying guitar amplifiers but that was not the limit to our talents. We worked in the music industry for over 30 years, keeping musicians working and making sure they can deliver the performances they want through a vast range of electrical equipment. If it has a plug on it we've probably fixed one, modified one or made one from scratch before! We have built up a stro

ng reputation for providing a reasonably priced service that ensures your kit keeps running and sounding great. We have looked after all the local studios, many of the local clubs and venues, and most of the great musicians to come out of Sheffield.

There has been a lot of interest from his friends and customers in attending the funeral. More details will be made available here nearer the time. Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories here. Thanks, Jamie

"Peter Hartley, who experimented with electronics, was visiting at the time. He saw Allen moving his feet and realized what he was doing. Hartley offered to make Allen an electronic drum kit with custom pedals and drum pads. Electronics drums were rare at the time but are now more common."

A wonderful, unsubstantiated rumour about Eddie Van Halen using one of Allan Holdsworth's Hartley Thompson amps on Michael Jackons 'Beat It'

Using his battered red guitar and a hot-rodded Hartley Thompson amp borrowed from Allan Holdsworth, in under an hour he improvised a cavalcade of trademark finger tapping, whammy-bar dives, and legato touches for “Beat It.” Afterward, Michael Jackson arrived and complimented Eddie’s playing. Winking and nodding behind the door was Eddie’s buddy Steve Lukather of Toto, who recorded the rhythm guitar and bass on the song. “I really like that high fast stuff you do!” Jackson squealed to Eddie. Embarrassed to ask for anything, Eddie shrugged, shook hands with producer Quincy Jones, and walked away from the session. “Maybe Michael will give me dance lessons someday,” he told Musician afterward

'The Hartley-Thompson is a bit warmer, even though that and my other amps are 100% transistorized. And that's really unusual. Normally, transistor amps are clean up to a certain point, and after that they go into a horrendous type of distortion. The Hartley-Thompson doesn't do that.' - kind words indeed.

Joe Cocker's shoes at Woodstock hand made in Sheffield.

Little known fact that Pete made these very shoes for Joe in the days before he started working with amps. "yes I did the shoes. Blue dyed with Dylon and the silver stars were Joe's idea." This followed many a shared cuppa when Joe worked for the gas board and Pete was working for the YEB.
