Last chance to book on our summer Gelli plate printing workshop this Thursday 20th August 6-8.30pm!
Local artist Joanna Rucklidge will introduce you to the simple and fun art of Gelli plate printing, no previous experience needed.

Joanna’s current exhibition ‘Christmas Trees in July & other waste work’ in our Upstairs Gallery, where the workshop will take place, features prints made with discarded materials and found objects. Some of the work on show is made using Gelli plate printing, which is a simple way of making one off prints. Paint or ink is rolled onto a soft, flat plate. Shapes, textures or stencils are added to form an image and paper is pressed onto the plate. The paper is then peeled away to reveal your print.
Exhibition runs till 30th August. Prints, zines and postcards for sale.

So what is Gelli plate printing???
Gelli or gel plate printing is a simple way of making one-off prints without needing a printing press. You roll ink or paint onto a soft flat surface ( the gel plate) and then add shapes, textures or stencils. Paper is pressed onto the plate and then lifted away to reveal the print. The process can be repeated to build up layers of colour and pattern creating wonderfully unique prints.
It’s hands-on, experimental and you don’t need to be able to draw or have any previous printmaking experience.

Have you come and visited our exhibition upstairs yet? Don't worry, there is still time! Jo Rucklidge's Christmas Trees in July is on until the end of August.
Jo will be running some workshops at the shop in August, showcasing some of the techniques she has used in these images.
