💸 Would you pay £600+ to repair this iPad?

This iPad Pro 11-inch M4 came in with what might look like a fairly minor crack, but unfortunately the impact had also damaged the OLED underneath.

That means there’s no glass-only option here — the complete display needs replacing, and on these newer iPad Pros, that isn’t cheap!

For this repair we fitted a brand-new genuine Apple display, bringing it back to how it should be.

I actually have the same iPad myself, and at £600+ for a screen repair, I’m not sure whether I’d bite the bullet or start looking at replacing the iPad instead. 😬

Rounded screw that just won’t come out? 🔩

Sometimes during repairs a screw head gets damaged or rounded off and suddenly your screwdriver has nothing left to grip.
One little trick we use when the screw is accessible enough: a pair of household nail clippers.

The jaws can sometimes grab underneath the edge of the screw head, giving you enough grip to carefully turn it and get it out.

It definitely won't work on every screw, but when it does, it can save you a lot of messing around! 🔧

🌧️ The storm last week claimed another victim…

This phone came in after getting caught in the bad weather, and the strange green display was a pretty good sign that something wasn’t right.
Once opened up, we found that moisture had made its way inside and damaged the display.

Thankfully, this one was repairable — a new display got the phone back up and running again. 📱🔧

A good reminder that water resistant doesn’t mean waterproof, especially as devices get older and their seals deteriorate.

Ever had one of those tiny phone screws that just refuses to stay on your screwdriver? 😤
Here’s a trick we use all the time 👇

Give the tip of your screwdriver a few rubs across the magnet in the phone’s loudspeaker. It’ll give the screwdriver a little magnetism and suddenly those tiny screws are much easier to pick up, position and put back where they belong.

Simple trick, but when you’re dealing with screws this small, it’s a lifesaver. 😂

This is why we’d always be cautious with those “waterproof” phone bags… 🌊📱

This iPhone was taken on an underwater excursion inside one of the waterproof bags provided for the activity. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, the bag didn’t keep the water out.

Once we opened the phone, the extent of the liquid ingress was pretty clear. Water had made its way throughout the device, causing extensive internal damage and leaving this one unfortunately beyond repair.

A good reminder that even when a waterproof pouch is supplied for an activity, we’d never completely trust your phone in it when going underwater! 😬
