A special piece from the private collection of ACGcert™️ Founder Mark Kirkup.

This Diego Maradona signed Argentina shirt was obtained at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Leipzig, Germany on 24th June 2006 during the World Cup.

Maradona was refusing virtually everybody that approached him that day, surrounded by his entourage and security. After travelling from England to meet him, the signing only happened thanks to his daughter Gianinna Maradona, who spoke English and persuaded Diego to stop and sign the shirt and one photograph.

A genuine in-person football memory from one of the game’s greatest ever icons. 🇦🇷⚽️

Desire Doué is turning into a serious name in football already, and this is exactly the sort of shirt collectors like getting tucked away early before the hype goes mad.

Maradona Signature analysis

Left — genuine in-person example. Quick, natural, confident. Exactly how Maradona signed.

Right — the kind we see all over online marketplaces. Looks clean at first glance, but it just doesn’t have the natural flow… feels slow and a bit laboured. The letter shapes aren’t quite right, the angles are off, and the overall construction throws up a few clear red flags.

If the ACGcert® team had £1 for every Maradona forgery we see online… we’d probably be sitting in the pub with Elon Musk every Friday night. Dripping in gold and Botox.

Maradona is one of the most forged autographs in the hobby. Once you’ve seen enough real ones, the difference becomes obvious.
