The following information is to please be accredited to the book "Shrewsbury Street Names," by John L. Hobbs * first printed in 1954.
Windsor Place 1836
Windsor Place "leads from Castle Street, opposite * the Raven, to St. Mary's Church, and is so named from Windsor House on the corner of St. Mary's Place and the family of this name who resided there.
The street must have been in existence much earlier, and its former name is not known, but seems to have regarded as part of St. Mary's Place.
In a deed of 1476 it is referred to as "the venel leading into the Friar Preacher's."
Windsor's Square was a block of buildings between the Castle Gates, just above Meadow Place, mentioned by Phillips and shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1879.
Mr. Windsor also owned land adjoining the Raven Meadow in the early nineteenth century, when he was engaged in a dispute over boundaries with the School Authorities.
A row of houses on the north side of the Mount, probably the property of the same family, was also known as Windsor Place."
