Roasting coffee is the ultimate transformation. It’s part science, part sensory intuition.

Inside the drum, temperature is everything. We watch the beans turn from pale green to warm yellow, then rich mahogany. We listen closely for the "first crack"—the moment the bean expands and releases its locked-in origin flavours.

Roasting too dark hides the bean's unique character; roasting too light leaves it sour. At Aroma, we roast in small batches to hit that sweet spot every single time, preserving the bright fruit notes of a Honduras Santa Rosa or bringing out the deep chocolate of our Darwin-inspired Evolution Blend.

What actually makes a perfect cup of tea? 🫖✨

At Aroma, we’ve spent since 1981 sourcing, blending, and tasting thousands of leaves right here in Shrewsbury. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that a truly exceptional cup of tea isn’t an accident.

The Leaf Matters (Step Away from the Dust) 🌿
Most mass-market supermarket tea bags contain the leftover debris from broken tea leaves. For a real cup of tea, you want whole, loose-leaf tea that retains its essential oils, giving you a smooth, complex flavour profile rather than a one-dimensional bitterness.

Respect the Temperature 🌡️
Pouring boiling water over delicate tea leaves can scorch them, leaving your brew tasting bitter. Let your kettle sit for a few minutes to cool down to around to unlock those sweet, grassy notes without the astringency.
Black Teas & Herbal Infusions: Love 85C-90C.
Green & White Teas: Need a gentler touch 70C-75C.

Patience is a Virtue (The Steep) ⏳
We’ve all been guilty of squeezing a tea bag against the side of a mug after 30 seconds. Real flavour takes time! Give your black teas a solid 3 to 5 minutes to unfurl and infuse. Green teas only need 2 to 3 minutes. Set a timer; your taste buds will thank you.

Fresh, Oxygenated Water 💧
Never re-boil yesterday’s water left in the kettle! Re-boiled water loses its dissolved oxygen, which flatlines the tea leaves' vibrant characteristics. Always start with fresh, cold water. Ideally, filtered if you have it.
