As a phone repair business, we see first-hand the damage that excessive heat and faulty batteries can cause, so we were happy to help raise awareness and share some important safety advice. ⚠️

🚨 PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR PHONE IN THE FRIDGE OR FREEZER IN THIS HEAT! 🚨

We are currently flooded with repairs at the shop, and almost all of them are due to this intense heat. If your phone is acting up, you are definitely not alone.

🔋 Swollen Batteries: The heat is causing batteries to warp, expand, and quite literally puff up like small pillows. If your phone looks like it's bursting at the seams, turn it off immediately and get it to us—it's a massive safety hazard!

🫠 Lifting Screens & Back Glass: The intense heat is actually degrading and softening the factory adhesive inside your phone. We're seeing tons of screens and back panels physically lifting and separating away from the frame because the glue has lost its bond.

💧 "Mysterious" Water Damage: We've had a lot of phones come in with internal moisture damage, and we have a strong feeling it’s from people putting their hot phones into the fridge or freezer! Please don't do this! The sudden temperature drop causes instant internal condensation (moisture inside the screen and logic board), which can completely kill the phone.

📱 Lifting Faceplates/Displays: Between the expanding batteries and the failing glue, front panels and screen assemblies are popping right out of their housings.

To keep your phone working here are our top tips for keeping them cool:

➡️ 1. Take your phone case off for a bit. Heavy or rubber cases trap heat. 🥵

➡️ 2. Never leave your phone in direct sunlight, on a hot car dashboard, or buried under a towel/pillow. ☀️

➡️ 3. Lower your screen brightness. High brightness forces the screen to pull more power, creating internal heat. 🔆

➡️ 4. Turn on Airplane Mode or turn off Bluetooth and GPS for a while to give the processors a break. ✈️

➡️ 5. Minimal use. Hold off on intensive gaming, streaming long videos, or shooting high-res videos until you're somewhere cooler.📱

➡️ 6. Smart charging choices. Charging creates natural heat. Avoid charging your phone in a hot room or on soft surfaces like a bed or couch that trap heat. 🔌

❌ Why the fridge is a massive NO: It might seem like a quick fix, but the rapid temperature drop causes internal condensation. That means actual moisture/water damage inside your screen and logic board, which can instantly kill your phone. Just a fan, some shade, or a cool surface is all you need!

Window stickers, full window frosted covering, our opening times and all our acrylic signs we’ve ever needed—she’s done absolutely loads to help us make this space our own. 🚨 SPOT A STRANGE 18+ APPLE PROMPT? DON'T PANIC! 🚨

​We’ve had a LOT of worried customers popping into the shop recently about a new 18+ Age Verification screen appearing after the latest iPhone update. 📱👀

​We want to reassure everyone:

IT IS 100% SAFE AND GENUINE! ✅

​Here is the quick, no-nonsense breakdown of what’s happening:

​Why is it on my screen? 🤔

Apple has introduced this specifically in the UK to comply with the new Online Safety laws. They have to verify you're an adult to unlock 18+ apps and content.

​Are my details safe? 🔐

YES. Apple DOES NOT SAVE your credit card or ID details. It is a strict one-time check just to prove your age, then it's wiped.

​What if I don't have a credit card? 💳

Apple defaults to asking for a credit card, but you DO NOT need one! You can use a Driving Licence (including provisional), a UK Passport, or a CitizenCard (with a PASS hologram) instead.

👉 Tip: Tap "Enter Details Manually" at the bottom of the screen to find the ID options!

​What if I don't have ANY of these or don't want to do it? ❌

No worries! Your phone won't lock you out and your apps won't disappear. You can just hit "Verify Later." The only thing that happens is Apple will turn on strict family safety filters, so some adult websites or 18+ apps might be blocked until it's done.

​Stuck on the screen? Is the camera scanner playing up? 📸❌

Lighting and shadows can make the ID scanner really finicky! If you're struggling or just want us to walk you through it safely, feel free to pop into the shop! We're happy to give you a hand and get it sorted in two minutes. 🔧

🚨 THIS IPAD BATTERY EXPLODED IN OUR SHOP! 🚨

The recent heatwave caused a surge in swollen batteries arriving for repair. This iPad was one of them.

After the screen was removed, the swollen battery suddenly ignited while resting on the bench. 🔥

Luckily, our technician Jodie reacted instantly and prevented a much bigger incident.

A reminder that heat and lithium batteries are a dangerous combination. Never leave devices in direct sunlight or hot vehicles. ☀️📱

And yes… after a new battery, the iPad actually worked again! 😲
