To celebrate World Bee Day last week. We donated some bee and bug hotels to our local primary school.

We’re keen to spread the word about the importance of bees, and what better place to start then with children.

We’re hoping that we can work more with local schools in the future, because learning about bees helps children understand ecosystems, food production, and biodiversity. Early positive experiences with wildlife often shape lifelong attitudes toward conservation. 🥰

Shropshire honey from the next generation of beekeepers 🐝🍯

Today our youngest daughter spent the day with her dad learning all about beekeeping, caring for the bees, and working around the hives. Safe to say she’s a beekeeper in the making!

As a family-run business in Shropshire, we love sharing our passion for natural, local honey and traditional beekeeping with the next generation.

Every jar of our award-winning Shropshire honey is produced with care, straight from our hives to your table.

Why choose our hand poured soy and beeswax candles?

Our beeswax and soy candles are handcrafted to create a cleaner, longer-lasting burn without the harsh chemicals found in paraffin candles.

Beeswax naturally helps purify the air and provides a long burn time, while soy wax provides a smooth burn, with a great scent throw.

Whether you’re setting the mood for a cosy evening, creating a calming space, or choosing a thoughtful gift, our candles are made to bring a little peace and luxury into everyday life.
✨ Natural ingredients

What makes you happy?”

Not the big, once-in-a-lifetime kind of happy. The everyday kind. The quiet kind.

For us, it’s muddy boots after a countryside walk in Shropshire. It’s standing in the apiary listening to bees hard at work. It’s fresh air, open skies, and the reminder that nature somehow makes everything feel a little lighter.
Funny how happiness often turns out to be the simple stuff we used to overlook.

What’s your version of this?

What’s something small, ordinary, or unexpected that genuinely makes you happy? 🌼

You open a new jar of honey and notice it tastes slightly different from the last one. The colour is a shade lighter. The texture is thicker or thinner than last time. The flavour has a new note you cannot quite place. If you have ever experienced this and wondered whether something is wrong — relax. Nothing is wrong. In fact, everything is right!

Real honey never tastes the same twice because it is a natural, unprocessed product influenced by a constantly changing environment.

Try natural honey 🍯

Bens been down at Malt Meadow today checking on the hives.

Loads of dandelions in the meadow.

Did you know those “weeds” in your lawn are actually a lifeline for bees? 🌼🐝

Dandelions are one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, giving honey bees a much-needed source of nectar and pollen after a long winter.

So next time you’re tempted to pull them out or mow them down, consider leaving a few behind. A small patch can make a big difference for pollinators—and the planet.

Let it grow. Let them feed. 🐝

A solid brood pattern typically indicates:

At the Weekend Ben had a phone call about a Swarm. Unfortunately, I wasn’t with him to record the full capture, but you can see from the footage that he was able to guide them into the nuc box.

The main reasons bees swarm
1. Colony reproduction
Swarming is how a bee colony creates a new colony. The original hive splits:
The old queen leaves with about half the workers.
They go off to find a new home.
Meanwhile, a new queen takes over the original hive.
This is essentially the bee version of having offspring.

2. Overcrowding in the hive
When a hive becomes too full—lots of bees, honey, and brood—the space gets tight. This triggers swarming behavior because:
There isn’t enough room for everyone.
It becomes harder to maintain the hive efficiently.

3. Seasonal cues (usually spring/early summer)
Swarming most often happens when:
Flowers are abundant (plenty of food)
Weather is warm
These conditions make it easier for a new colony to survive.

4. Queen-related signals
The queen produces pheromones that help keep the colony unified. If:
Her pheromone levels drop (due to age or crowding),
Or the colony senses she’s weakening,
then workers may prepare to swarm and raise a new queen.
